Seems my laptop does not support Vulkan. It's a got a Pentium N3700 in it with bog-standard Intel HD Graphics, seems to me that I'll need a fancy 6th-gen Intel or a dedicated graphics card to have any hope of getting support. Anyway, that means that a Vulkan frontend will not be coming from me.

Edit:
After a bit of research, looks like my GPU's secretly a 400 or a 405, neither of which are supported. Although the CPU itself seems to be a variation on Broadwell, meaning it might be good with the Linux iMESA drivers? Hmm.

(p.s Anyone know of a site where you can check to see what the internal ports are on your laptop? It's a fairly new Lenovo and iFixit hasn't gotten to it yet, I don't really want to crack it open only to find there's no PCI ports and I've just triggered some kind of anti-theft or something)

You can thank Factor 5 for writing custom microcode for that one.

The z64 plugin made some progress on it allowing the intro to render, haven't heard anything else about it since though.
Another problematic thing is the framebuffer effects in mario kart 64, the tv screen in Luigi Raceway has a
massive drop in fps.
Resident Evil 2 also has problems in mupen64ae, the mupen64 core in a past RetroArch version made the in-game
backgrounds showup properly but the character / enemy models where still missing.

Not anymore, GlideN64 (not to be confused with Glide 64), emulates the depth framebuffer without much of an impact to speed, long gone are the days where emulating that effect kills performance. At least
when I play them, I notice no drop in speed; Banjo Kazooie's jigsaw puzzle effect is also fully emulated without reductions in speed, you should give GlideN64 a try, it's open source and gets a lot of updates.

Resident Evil 2 is one of the hardest games to emulate, not surprisingly, as it took full advantage of the N64 hardware, doing things that should've been impossible, such as full FMV sequences on a 64 MB/512 megabit cart.

I tried GlideN64 on project64 but it keeps resetting the settings to their default the next time I open the GlideN64
settings.

Then I don't know what to tell you, it works perfectly fine on my machine, try one of the builds on EmuCR, as much as I hate to recommend that place,. What version of PJ64 are you using? Hopefully you're using a more update build of that as well. Failing that, try Mupen64 instead. There's no reason for it not to work, unless your GPU isn't supported?

Reinstall Project64 or downgrade to an earlier version. I had that problem and it's because the PJ64 UI coding is a proverbial clusterfuck that will corrupt if you look at it the wrong way

I'm using v2.2 public release.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
