Is it too personal? Sorry, i had no idea. Then i guess if i was to buy one for first time, what would you decide is best?
It's fine, don't worry!

And hmm.. My personal favorites are the Forget-me-Not valley entries, A Wonderful Life and DS. I don't know if that would be a good place to start though. AWL is pretty different in that a lot of focus is on your family and mainly your kid, I loved it and the whole entire environment but it's also very slow compared to others and there aren't really any goals like some games have. Harvest Moon DS is also full of bugs, and if you're going to get into the older handhelds I'd recommend (More) Friends of Mineral Town anyways.

Friends of Mineral Town is good though, I'd recommend it if one of the older games sound fun. There are also different versions with the same characters (I think Harvest Moon 64 and Back to Nature) but I was never able to play those. Apparently those are really good too though.

Tree of Tranquility for the Wii was also fun, and it also has a second version called Animal Parade with some new stuff. I own both but I've only finished Tree of Tranquility. From my boyfriend who I don't think really likes these games, he said Animal Parade was REALLY good.

After ToT I kind of stopped enjoying the newer releases, but the newest Story of Seasons was actually pretty fun too. I liked the farming mechanics this time around, it felt a whole lot more rewarding and fun to grow crops. Some of the requirements are pretty hard though, and there is so much of everything it can get a little more complicated than the older ones.

Since this thread is about Natsume's versions of Harvest Moon, I guess I'll go ahead and also recommend those. I've only played Lost Valley and it wasn't my cup of tea, but I could see how someone could still have a lot of fun playing it (if I didn't have any ill thoughts towards it, I actually probably would've really enjoyed it.)

Sorry I just ended up listing different games without picking one for you. There is a lot of variety, and you can even look around for others too if you want! These are just my personal favorites.

Sorry if I'm getting really off topic!

I personally like Harvest Moon DS, but a lot of people like Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town on GBA. Harvest Moon 3D A New Beginning is okay IMO, but it takes a long time to rebuild the village so it's kind of a time sink. Harvest Moon DS is also a major time sink, but it's less apparent because there's a lot to do from the start.
I'm just gonna ask, since you seem have most knowledge of the game, What makes this game fun?
That's like asking what makes Animal Crossing fun. It's just a relaxing simulation game. Obviously one of the big things is also the dating/marriage aspect too, and farming is very mportant (being the main point), especially selling enough crops to not be constantly broke. Money is easy to get in HMDS because you require so much of it between the house upgrades, equipment, and farm buildings.

Okay, well I just wnted a reason to feel invested in a game that i don't understand how others like it, Most sim games usuallyy goes about you having no real goals to end the game (story, arcade, campang modes) and mot of the time is just "select a comand, are you sure?" (now loading) "done, the______ was successful, "30 minutes until next command can be given, try againn later" Which seem very slow, less active and repeative.

Not to ups anyone who disagree or likes the game, just it seem very limited to activity and more about strategy.

No worries if you don't like it! Some of the entries have goals that stop the story until you complete them (Like Tree of Tranquility or A New Beginning), and there is also more elements to it like family or relationships if you're into that.

But it is very repetitive after awhile, so I can see how that wouldn't be enjoyable!

Even though it's already been stated, I want to say again that this is NOT the next game in the Bokujou Monogatari series. Since the next one is getting released in Japan this month I expect there will be some kind of announcement for the Story of Seasons localization soon.

It's kind of old news but just for people who aren't filled in since I don't think I saw this, Natsume still has the rights to the name "Harvest Moon" and they use it to produce their own games now outside the Bokumono franchise. Marvelous acquired Xseed or something like that, so now they are doing localizations.

Part of me is hoping my sister will buy this one so I can mooch off it and see how it is. I've only played Lost Valley since she bought it on accident.
Either way I know people do enjoy these still so I hope that they can find enjoyment out of this installment too.

I'm a bit saddened by the whole situation. In how it effectively has in my opinion tainted the title of Harvest Moon. I mean Story of Seasons was undoubtedly the better Harvest Moon game than Harvest Moon Lost Valley was. Furthermore, an end result of the whole situation seemed to have been putting Rune Factory 5 on hold. Based on something I read from the end of last year though, it sounds like Rune Factory 5 may be back in development, I really hope it is, because the Rune Factory spin off series has been in my opinion the absolute best Harvest Moon games there has been thanks to the whole addition of dungeon crawling and monster slaying. What I'm concerned about is, if Rune Factory does indeed continue (I sure hope it does!) I really hope they still get to keep the name Rune Factory, I'm not so sure they will if they lost the right to use the title Harvest Moon for their games.

So I just bought HM Seeds of Memories. It definitely feels like a mobile game. It's only $12 (that actually feels kind of expensive for a mobile game that's not a Square Enix game port) but I probably wouldn't recommend it unless you want something just to kill on your phone.

Rune Factory is the Japanese name so the name right belong to the developers. Whether or not we get to see another RF game depends on Marvelous AQL since they hired the RF development team for Lord of Magna.

Can you tell me more about the relationship or family part of the game? is it like dating or something?

It's more giving gifts to raise the characters heart level and then triggering events. Rune Factory 4 is the only related game I know that actually has a dating part. Rune Factory 4 is fantastic by the way.

That sounds worst than drift girls, or hunnie pop. Matter of fact that sounds worst than most japanese dating sims standarts, Where you even get money from, working? I understand is a simulation game but is still a game, it shouldn't try to be exactly like real life without including some out of boundary fictional stuff.:wtf:

Different strokes for different folks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In all fairness though, the game isn't meant to be a dating simulator, I believe the general idea of it originally was that the creator had moved from the country to the city and really wanted to create something to show the beauty of living in that sort of environment. I feel like based off what I've heard some people say about Rune Factory you might actually like that more.

I really want to get around to playing RF but I have no clue if I should grab an older game first or go with 4.

I've never played a Harvest Moon game, but I came across a little indie title that you may know called "Stardew Valley" on Steam. After seeing that, I've been wondering what I've been missing not having played Harvest Moon. I'll have to give it a try sometime soon. Perhaps I'll get Skytree Village.

Anything after Harvest Moon 3D A New Beginning isn't actually part of the original series. It's probably a better idea to get one of the older ones or get Story of Seasons.

Harvest Moon has dating... In Tale of Two Towns, you can ask any candidate of the opposite sex to go on a date with you. I can't remember if it affected marriage proposal or not. I remember some candidate preferring populated places and some wanted to be alone with you.

For the most part, some heart events count as a date. Some just moments where you two "touch" in each other's lives.

Love in Harvest Moon isn't meant to be spontaneous I WANNA MARRY YOU SUDDENLY type of deal. Marriage proposal is becoming harder and harder, and Marvelous is starting to implement reverse proposals for some candidates who are more assertive. (though you need to work harder to achieve the requirements for reversal proposals)

It scares me a bit that some candidates won't do a reverse proposal. For instance, in Tale of Two Towns the marriage candidate Kamil will never reverse propose to the female protagonist. Does that mean when he has red flowers (signifying he is deeply in love with the protagonist), that he is aware of his love for you but isn't assertive enough to propose? Does that mean he is content to live his life and never propose to the women he loves? Odd stuff.

I will give Rune Factory points though. In Rune Factory 2, I remember you can literally steal a girl away on her wedding day. It's absolutely hilarious. Harvest Moon hasn't done rival marriages in quite a few iterations. We still kinda get "rivals", but they don't do much anymore.

I also wish we see more of the two protagonists living together in the same world. It's neat when the opposite sex protagonist also has a farm with you and grows alongside you. Maybe in a future Bokujou Monogatari we'll see rivalry with opposite sex protagonist? Ooo

Never played Tale of Two Towns. Heard it was pretty bad so I avoided it. Most recent I played besides Story if Seasons was A New Beginning.

Really? I would say it was one of the best. The inclusion of two towns with differing cultures and tons of candidates was well recieved by most. The new 3DS Bokujou Monogatari being released this month actually expands on the concept to three towns with seperate cultures and climates, proving Tale of Two Towns to possibly be one of the most popular. It's all very interesting.

As far as I know, Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility was the pretty damn bad. (Wii Harvest Moon) Even it's improved version Animal Parade couldn't save it.
