What makes you say it leaves traces in the NAND? Even if that were true, installing CIAs leaves traces in the NAND too, so does installing A9LH, so does FBI injection.
I've used .3DS roms exclusively for years ever since the Gateway came out and guess what? I've never gotten banned.
NTR has cheat support but it doesn't have built-in cheat searching which is what I mentioned.
maybe the MSET exploit or other stuff? Quoted from the Luma3ds wiki: "If your Old 3DS/Old 3DS XL has been downgraded to 4.5 from the Gateway menu in the past, your CTRNAND has leftovers from one or more previous FIRMs, and this causes issues with the CTRNAND code. This is not an issue with Luma itself, but rather with the GW downgrade process which doesn't do any cleanup and leaves CTRNAND in a messy state." https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki/FAQ-and-Troubleshooting
also cias are waaay more convenient, and eventually you or others will be banned for the public headers.
and the cheating in ntr is comparable or superior to GW's not to talk about the screen recording

Oh, that. It only affects those who used the downgrade which these days probably no one does so I don't really consider it an issue anymore.
I'm not using public headers, I'm not an idiot :P
CIAs are nowhere near as convenient as .3DS roms. For games that don't have online it's a simple copy&paste and play. Games with online take about a minute and 5-7 clicks to patch. Much quicker than waiting for a CIA to install. Plus games are easier to find in .3DS format. .3DS to .CIA conversion is a pain in the ass.

@Davidosky99 The guy ALREADY owns a Gateway flashcart, and is just asking about the current state of the art of the 3DS hacking scene, he doesn't need you to tell him that GW sucks since he is not planning to BUY one.

Please take your hatred elsewhere (and I don't even own a Gateway or even care about it), let us help this guy get what HE wants, and let this thread continue ON-TOPIC instead of turning it into yet another useless Gateway war thread.

can you use ciaangel or funkeycia to download .3ds DIRECTLY from nintendo servers? I think I can do it with CIAS. talk about convenience but you have to boot in GW mode if you want to use the .3ds roms, not talking about the awful rom selection screen. And also, cias are way nicer to have on your home screen and to select. And about the ease of drag and drop I think .tiks burn that last sentence, because you can even download from the eshop

i'm telling him that gws are useless and he's way better installing a cfw because it's superior nowadays

You can do all that on Gateway too but nothing beats the convenience of .3DS roms. The MultiROM menu is a matter of preference, some people like it, others don't. I'm fine with it personally, saves me from cluttering up the home menu with lots of icons and having to manually sort them alphabetically.
You have to boot into CFW to use CIAs and anyway it's automatic with menuhax (and soon A9LH) so I don't see the issue there.

do you have 100% boot rate?
installing CIAS defeats the purpose of gw and cias are way more convenient when you're downloading them DIRECTLY from nintendo servers

And installing CIAs still take a piss long time compared to downloading 3DS files and dragging them over. I'm a former GW now A9LH user and even I find the relentless bashing irritating.

Let the man use whatever he wants, no need to inject your personal feelings into it.

downloading 3ds files form your local iso site takes about IDK 15 minutes? a tik download takes 1 second. you install the tik. you go to the eshop. there, downloading the SAME EXACT game takes less than downloading from your iso site(like 7 minutes). Really, it's not worth it

It's 90-95% for now, which is close enough, and of course it will be 100% once A9LH support is released.
Some people might prefer downloading games directly from Nintendo's servers but I know a lot of people don't want to for fear that they could get banned, and downloading ROMs from a fast site like MEGA is much faster, plus .3DS/.CIA games are often dumped early.
Anyway I think the argument has gone off-track. My point was just that Gateway is still a solid and easy to use device. Most of the things you're mentioning are really just a matter of personal preference.

it's not really a matter of personal preference, it's a fact that gateway is growing outdated in comparison of cfws

And I already mentioned that. That's only been happening recently. A lot of stuff has been happening recently and they haven't really had the chance to catch up yet, but they are at least working on it. As long as they're still providing new updates Gateway will stay relevant. If they abandon it, then it's likely they'll lose most of their customer base.

15 minutes? Only if you have really bad internet download speeds. Direct Download is always faster for me especially with MEGA links being prevalent nowadays.

Installing CIA files take way longer than 15 minutes especially if you're going for 2+ GB games like Bravely Second which will take more than 30 minutes.

I prefer CIA files but I can understand why people still use 3DS files. You should too.

if installing a said cia from the eshop takes like 30 minutes then downloading the .3ds+patching it+pasting it on the sd takes longer

Again, shitty internet speeds and shitty USB connections will net you 30 mins. Your hate for Gateway/3DS files is just ridiculous and unfounded.

Edit: You can't find tik files for EVERY game out there so there's that.

says the member with 1 post :)

I'm pretty sure he/she registered just so they can say that, which I would understand since I also get pissed reading you repeating the exact same nonconstructive stuff about Gateway, just as if your life and well being depends on it. I considered more than once adding you to my ignored list.

You should just let people do what THEY want. If you see someone asking if they should buy a Gateway, then feel free to tell them why you think it is a bad idea, but stop hijacking threads and arguing with people that already own a Gateway to try and change their minds so that it suits YOUR point of view, especially if you NEVER owned one and have no idea about 90% of what you are talking about. Be OPEN MINDED.

If a free CFW can completely replace a GW cart, then believe me, people will realize it very soon, they aren't stupid. But if people prefer using .3ds backups instead of CIAs, or using the built-in cheat engine or whatever, then LET THEM BE.

@SushiKing: if you have further questions about the A9LH setup process for you or your friend, feel free to ask here. We should refocus this thread on the initial request.

i don't mind people using GW or even GW itself, it's a choice, i'm just giving my personal opinion and facts, i'm not bashing anyone(but the gw team ocasionally)

You'll just need the SD card if he's on a firmware version lower than 10.4

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
