Wii U production might stop in 2018

article_post_width_wii-u-sad-1534973.jpg

Following rumors of an early end and being swiftly denied by Nintendo, it seems like the WiiU could indeed meet its end in 2018.

Following today's financial report, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has revealed that production of the WiiU could cease in March 2018, a year after the release of the NX.

This might come as a surprise since the general trend that the company has followed with previous consoles was to keep the old generation around for a while. However the WiiU hasn't been the big N's best-selling console and it probably wants everyone to move on.

Honestly that's hardly news. I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has tbh. I feel like it's dead right now and barely there.

Games like starfox zero are just like the dying embers of the console. Like, how can you even release a 4 hour game? That's just fucking embarrassing.

the wii-u is the one console I played after getting off work. I don't own an xbone, but I do own a ps4. nevertheless, I loved playing retro games.

I really do not understand how Nintendo can justify producing the wii u up until 2018. Maybe it is a case that it would cost more to shut down production than it would to just keep going at this point. I looked it up and Wii U sales are beyond abysmal, on most weeks the Vita sells a few thousand more units than the Wii U. It just seems like madness to continue producing a system that has zero interest and zero chance to turn things around past this year especially with the NX imminent.

They are continuing production most probably to push the console's ailing lifespan, and maybe justify that it lived the "normal" lifespan of a generation (although it could be a generation on its own). It could also provide a financial alternative to some people interested in new games like the new LoZ.

I saw people shitting on the Wii U. Guys, you should know that the Wii U was just a marketing flaw, nothing more nothing less. And When we say marketing flaw => less people attracted to the thing => less consumers => less interest in third party => Console Flaw. So stop shitting on the console itself, the fun that I had with the Wii U (and that I'm still having) is huge.

WiiU didn't suck until developers stop producing games.

Did they ever start making games for it? It seemed pretty dead on arrival and did not improve from there.

Well, Nintendo likes to avoid the "dudebro" games (GTA, Call of fucking Duty, etc.), which I applaud them for. I really, sincerely hate "mainstream" games, because they're all rehashes of their predecessors.
Isn't it better if someone else subsidises your fun?

So releasing an underpowered device with an architecture that goes against the grain, without a decent online system and suspect development tools is a marketing failure? I mean I love to blame things on marketing but unless they forced engineering to do that then there is plenty of blame to go around.
If you are having fun then fantastic, however that means little in the long run.

Will i cry about it? no. My Wii-U is from the powersource for several months now, i didn't even play the last game i bought for it. (I don't regret buying it :P )
I will still buy games for it, when the NX is out and Wii-U games go into low price sales.

Anyway, when i'm retired, i'll start playing those games on the Wii-U, by then it's also called retro gaming :D

At least it got a free online, and a less advanced online system is the price we paid for it. I'm also excited when Nintendo release an innovative system, for me it's what makes me buy a console rather than a PC.

With unannounced WiiU games being moved to the NX this is no surprise. The WiiU is an awesome piece of hardware, but it seems not enough people agree with me.

Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario 2D, Mario 3D, Animal Crossing, Pikmin and so on aren't rehashes? Your logic's flawed. Just because you don't like those games it doesn't mean Nintendo shouldn't have those publishers on board.

Pikmin 4 was reported to be partially finished in Sept 2015 so chances are it's 100% and so we'll see P4 as one of NX's launch games.

Nice one, Wii U!

I should have made a bigger point when I was explaining "that's just how it is". Companies will continue making what is popular. Again. And again. And again. And again. Why not? It earns them tons of money. Every company does that.

Wow. That's an awful lot of wrong, right there!
I figured it was like writing software for x64 and x86 types of operating systems. I.E., they're different, so you must change a few things here and there.
