I have A9LH on all my 3ds. But now I'm thinking, yes, fast boot and perfect boot rate, but installing it with the risk of bricking only to have a brick protection is pointless lol
But, but... erm... but...
Oh, yes, but the elimination of emunand and the GBA games without the cumbersomeness of double installing them in emunand and sysnand!

The pros people boast for this hack are so marginal... How often do you people turn off your system for boot speed to matter? With a good SD the system can stay on for weeks. Also, here's an idea: having a disposable virtual NAND is much safer than just working straight out of the system. I don't mean this for 3DS, I mean for anything digital ever. And to finish off, the process to do it is inelegant as fuck, something better is bound to come along really soon, so why not wait...

Better than access to the system before it's completely booted? Pros are marginal? Let's agree to disagree on both counts. It's not only about boot speed, it's about successful boot rate (which from personal experience I can say it was kinda annoying having to shut down and restart my n3ds 3 or 4 times sometimes to get it to stick. Not having to worry about system updates is nice too.

I'll redirect you to this question too.
Is it a cause or a consequence ?
Are you ok with menuhax because you never turn your 3DS off ?
Or do you never turn it off because it's annoying to boot again with menuhax ?

I myself used to almost never turn my 3DS systems off when I was using menuhax, because even with the 90% boot rate, I was extremely annoyed when it didn't boot. But now with a9lh I just turn them off everytime because it's almost a pleasure to boot so fast and so consistently.

Also, here's an idea: having a disposable virtual NAND is much safer than just working straight out of the system. I don't mean this for 3DS, I mean for anything digital ever.
People need to stop coining stuff about a9lh. It's just an entrypoint, used by CFWs among other stuff, and these CFW can perfectly still use emuNANDs and redNANDs. So switching to a9lh doesn't mean you're going to do everything in sysNAND from now on. Yes you can, but you don't have to.

Now, I'm not trying to tell you to switch because it obviously depends on people's preference, but at least, if these were your only arguments, they are not more valid than any other one at all.

Even if I myself don't think installing A9LH is justified given the risks and cumbersomeness involved, I have to say this:

How often do you people turn off your system for boot speed to matter?
Quite often, that is actually the use case for me.
If it were not for the annoyance that turning it off implied when using browserhax or menuhax, I would have turned off everytime I got off the bus, e.g.
I just don't like to keep it turned on, and also of course I don't give a fuck about StreetPass, my WiFi is off 99% of the time.

With a good SD the system can stay on for weeks. Also, here's an idea: having a disposable virtual NAND is much safer than just working straight out of the system. I don't mean this for 3DS, I mean for anything digital ever.
Debatable, I think having something similar to boot2 is even better.

And to finish off, the process to do it is inelegant as fuck, something better is bound to come along really soon, so why not wait...
The process is inelegant as fuck, I agree.
There is something better bound to come along really SOON™.
Well, with the SOON™ perhaps, but I don't think so.

The OP implies it's absurd not to switch your hax ("menuhax peasants"), while these answers reflect more what it is... An incremental upgrade that is a decent idea, but not vital.

I remeber one year ago when 7.0 encryption would NEVER (tm) be broken and Gateway MUST (tm) release a v2 to support it, and things like that. Our tolerance for what SOON (tm) is, is very jaded in comparison to other communities... We're fast approaching a hack that will truly pwn the system, in the way that some flashcarts did with the DS. When that comes along, then topics like this will make sense. Until then... Yeah.

Remind me again, how much more can you "pwn" a system than being able to directly boot into whatever you want (including but not limited to Linux directly if you so choose)? About the only thing current cfws CANT actually do is directly load .3ds files (and if flash carts are any indicator, this MIGHT be for the best to prevent mass online bans)

Because I already downgraded my o3DS 10.5 to 9.2, and then installed RxTools, with Sysnand and Emunand stuff.

And I don't know if it's possible without loosing stuff like activity logs or streetpass place data, friendlist etc

Personally I'm not english native and don't understand everything well...

Then I dont exactly wich guide you mean ? For doing some stuff, it's sometimes a mess to navigate between some tutorials, with differents versions, even hardware (o3ds + xl, 2ds, n3ds + xl...), or firmware, "can i follow this guide since I use emunand RxTools 3 in 10.6" "how can I switch to aureinand from RxTools" "I don't have already an emunand" etc...
If something appears clear to you, that doesnt mean it is for everyone...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, is usually my stance. If something is super annoying me, I'll just wait for that to be fixed. Then I'll play all the games I can, and when I come back for more, I'll check to see if there are updates. If it's a simple matter of replacing old files with updated files, that's no problem. But if I have to spend a few hours reapplying stuff, and a few hours making sure how to not mess it up, I'll usually pass.

I only have limited editions 3ds, so the risk of brick puts me off. Reinand works on the first boot most of the time, and rarely needs more than one attempt (lucky, I suppose), so I have no annoyances that are pushing me to upgrade. It'll be a hassle to redo my whole structure, as well as learn all the ins and outs of this hack. I have a few games I'm playing, so I'll check back in a few more months to see if there's a less bricky way of doing things.

You know what guide I'm talking about, we are in a thread about a9lh so don't act stupid.

The guide is pretty clear, written for every type of 3ds, and walks people through it all. If people read the guide and still had questions and/or concerns that would be fine, but that's not the case. It annoys the fuck out of me that all these people who are scared of a brick or other fear about the guide can't take the time to actually read it. It's not just you, its the majority of people scared of doing it. It is actually the majority of the users of this forum. They don't read shit but bitch when something doesn't work. Even though the fix for said problem is in the main post of the thread they are posting in.

From what I understand I have a heavily modified emunand. Lots of patches(don't exactly remember which ones either) my menuhax booting to Gateway :3 is working fine I really like gateways cheat system.. But I guess I'm mainly scared of loosing my stuff whether it be loosing my emunand or just saves I don't want to risk it. But cloning my emunand to sysnand would be cool.

So yeah :P

Hate to break it to you, but menuhax likely isn't going to get any better, as it relies on an unstable exploit. A9lh setup might get a few manual steps chopped out of it, but it's actually pretty safe if you follow the guide as written (source - I've set up six systems). These days with the tools available, nearly all bricks are caused by end user error - and even those aren't all that common. There's also a link in the guide to an IRC channel where there's people that are willing to help.
