Hey, I just hardmodded my N3DS XL, but after some test here, no compatible SD Card Reader... Blue Error Screen with good code but no device letter.

But I tried my last SD Reader I have, a SD Reader from my CANON PIXMA MP980 PRINTER, and it worked lol So if you don't have a compatible SD Reader but a Printer with SD Reader, try it !

The only issue and I don't know why, the Read Speed is very low, about 1.43mb/s (35 minutes for my 1.8gb Nand)... But it's better than nothing ;)

I found the problem, the SD Reader of my Printer is cabled in USB 1.1 so 1.5mb/s max...

Where did you find a usb 1.1? I thought those are extinct in 2016:rofl2:, shouldnt be to hard to replace it with another usb to the ad adapter

My Printer is USB 2.0, but the SD Reader built in is cabled internally in USB 1.1 (the SD Reader of my Printer is just here to direct print a photo from SD Card, so no need USB 2.0 speed).

So, SD reader of my Printer is USB 1.1 then it pass by my USB Printer in USB 2.0 but as the SD Reader is cabled at 1.1 I have USB 1.1 speed.

No problem for me, it's 35 minutes but I'm patient.

;)

My method of putting the cables so they do not press the screen (as little as possible).

I use soldering flux, what happens is already evaporated, and made copies and restores smoothly. I thought I had to flux take only the area to be welded. Should I take more quantity the next time?

I thought it was not good going over, I even clean the remains after work.

1. Beware to the upper right corner of the micro USB PCB that will hinder the nesting of the rear shell.
2. The lenght of your GND wire is too long.
3. You use multistranded wire that is too thick.

Prefer Kynar wire and short lenght as possible for GND like this :

If it works like that keep the current installation but too long GND wire may cause NAND recognition difficulties along the length of SD cable + USB/SD card reader used.
Maybe your install is good because you use thicker wire for GND.

I disassembled my N3DS XL, didn't do any mod, and reassembled it, now it won't boot. The bottom screen lights up and it immediately shut down.
I had a hard time reconnecting a cable near the fringe that's behind the motherboard, and I think I didn't get it all the way in, could it be the cause ?
Could you please give me some tips to reconnect the cables ? Thanks.

yeah the cables need to be completely in or you will get the error you are having, only tip i can give is to open the 3DS out completely, this will give you a bit of extra "give" to get the cables slotted in correctly

To reconnect the ribbons of the top screen you need tweezers to maintain them during clipping.

If you need help for hardmod instalaltion, you can contact me.

Thanks a lot for the tips, I'll go buy some tools later today.

Also, do you know why can't I completely lock some ribbons cables ? Like the one in pic, no matter how hard I press on it, the lock stays open, like this.

EDIT: I fixed my boot issue: I put the ribbon cable behind the motherboard the wrong way, the way they should be inserted seems to depend on the color of the socket. The home button doesn't work anymore because I can't fully close the lock, tho. I'll probably glue it or something once I know I won't have to open the 3ds anymore.

It seems you put the ribbon above the connector instead of below.
Now the connector should be relaxed because the valve should never be raised.

I suggest you to send your console to a professional for repairing.
