I modded my old fat ps2 yesterday and the games play smoothly without any lag of stutter but when a cgi cutscene plays it stutters like crazy , I am playing games through USB since I couldn't fine a network adaptor at all , any solutions ?? Thanks in advance

AFAIK
This happens because the PlayStaion 2 uses USB 1.1 so the loading time for games will be slow in certain areas of the game you play.some might/will stutter durning cutscenes as I have experienced this as well as. The ps2 as an outdated usb port.
Any alternatives would be burning DvDs or Using a Hard Drive.

Tried opl and the other one (forget what its called) one worked better than the other but either way, it's always gonna skip. Some games do skip a lot worse than others though, p4 skipped like crazy, silent hill 4 was bearable (from memory).

Better off esr patching and using dvds.

This is the most common thing on OPL using USB, it is normal and every one is aware of it.

With my Slim I use the Ethernet port to play through SMB share.

But with my Phat PS2 I use the internal HDD and everything is so fast and perfect!

Actually my system is kinda busted , the disk drive doesn't work at all , it was a launch day ps2 , I can not really blame it , it's nice that is still even boots up now , so if there is an OPL alternative , what is it ?? Form what the people here said it kinda makes things better but the problems still exist , I am fine with that

I have an almost launch ps2, The scph 30000 japanese, The cooler is too loud!! Isn't yours too?

So you think it doesn't detect your internal HDD? Is it properly formatted? Can you boot ulaunchElf and browse the HDD or run the formatter from there?

People are only giving half replies.

The PS2 only uses usb 1.1 ports, therefore can only supply a small amount of power. The USB drives we have need power from USB2. This means that the loading is slow and particularly stressful and intense parts of games will stutter (Kingdom Hearts opening scene is a prime example). To remedy this you need to do one of two things, both requiring an ethernet adapter (they're so cheap you may as well, I got mine for a tenner).

  • Use SMB sharing through ethernet, with all of your games contained on your PC.
  • USe a hard drive internally in your PS2.

It is not about power, the USB 1.1 protocol is slow, 12 megabits.

Buying an adaptor from ebay or amazon is near impossible since I live in egypt , and it's hard to ship anything to my country , and even if it does , the custom taxes are insane and I will likely pay double the price in the end , not to mention waiting for like 3 months before it arrives , can I change the usb ports to to usb 3.0 ones or it will be impossible ??

thats impossible, its not just the ports, its the protocols components and drivers\system
anyway, usb 2.0 would make it perfect lol...

Yeah the cooler sometimes is loud , in certain games , I remember it being like a vaccum cleaner when I used to play crash bandicoot the wrath of cortex and FF12

You can't change the USB ports. Your best option if you can't find an adapter is to burn the games to DVD's and patch them with ESR, then use the ESR PS2 app to run them.

The disc drive is busted , the discs doesn't even spin inside , the system is like 15 years old and it hasn't been used for 5 years
