Those new methods of upgrading are the reason we removed that statement, actually. It's a lot easier to tell people to just update that way.
Region changing is still planned, but we'll need to iron out some kinks first or it won't work on the eShop.

Thanks! Glad to hear it's still a planned feature.

I don't know about you, but I'd still rather update via CIAs then run something to execute the AM:InstallFirm. The only time it failed me was when I forgot to reinstall it correctly after testing something in 4.5 CFW. So after updating with CIAs, I go to launch it and it got stuck at boot logo. Lol. But that's what my NAND mod was for. :D

Maybe things are bit more dicey on the n3DS hence the server spoofing stuff. I don't really have a n3DS to test updating with. Perhaps updating a n3DS via CIAs is not as simple as doing an old 3DS. My old 3ds was easy as pie. I just had to leave out all the n3DS stuff and inject firm0/firm1. (but redid it after getting to test that AM:InstallFirm homebrew app dax made. So it was made even simpler. Though I understand why that method would be more risky as I was installing direct to synand. So if I failed to start that app for whatever reason it would be a brick the instant it rebooted. :P

I already have it updated now, so this newly discovered update method doesn't mean much to me now. :P

There is no public way (including gateway) to install CIAs on the 8.1J n3DS.

Installing cias from BigBlueMenu run as a 3DS file on Gateway doesn't work on n3DS? I'd imagine you use that to install the CIA version of BigBlueMenu then do the rest from there... That's how I originally did it on my 3DS XL...

EDIT: Oh I forgot, n3DS doesn't have rxTools support, so fixing the firm0/firm1 partitions isn't possible and the AM:InstallFirm homebrew I have was a private beta that the dev decided to not release... Never mind then. :P

I thought it did given that the Ocarina of Time exploit didn't require the browser? What exactly is missing with Gateway support on 8.1J or does Gateway just not work at all on that fw right now?
it seems its just bugged, it works and you can setup emunand and update(or at least you could until 9.6 was released), but the rom menu and GW3D indicator dont work

If using NTR to upgrade is a major stumbling block for people, we can look into something else. It's just veeeerry low priority since that method seems to work quite well, even though it requires Cubic Ninja.

well either way, end users with a n3ds will need oot or cubic ninja anyway even if you get the MSET exploit working, difference is, people wont need to KEEP cubic ninja, they can use it to install the older MSET then use MSET and sell off CN.....if you could just get a straight up MSET installer running via cubic ninja/oot it would take some of the complication out of it, i.e run CN/OOT install MSET, use MSET for everything else

so i with the release of Karl3DS the same few copies of CN could be used between and users.....and if GW switch to the old MSET method, then the price of getting hold of a copy of CN should go down as everyone will be using it once then trying to offload it

As big as you can copy to a piece of RAM accessible from both ARM11 and ARM9 while not completely killing anything required to do firmlaunch hax. AKA more than enough.

Because when I try to launch my payload (71 KB), i get green-red-green-blue-blue-blue-blue-blue-cyan-blue
(O3DS XL, 9.2)

Huh, odd. Not sure why the default payload would fail.

The default payload works fine too.
It's my payload that won't even load. (Dots described in an older post)
EDIT : Tried again after rebuilding, this time I get green-green-green-green-yellow(green and red in the same dot)-green
EDIT2 : It was exceptional, again green-red-green-blue-blue-blue-blue-blue-cyan-blue

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
