Here's the deal

I haven't updated Smash Bros. 3DS before 9.3/9.4 came out, so I can't really play on-line.

If I got my hands on the .CIA of the update, would I be able to install it on sysNAND as opposed to emuNAND? (given that update info. is not modified and therefore signed by nintendo)

(It's already been shown we can install stuff onto SysNAND.)

Cos I was just thinking, it would be kind of annoying if I had to go to emuNAND every time I wanted to play online with a retail game I paid full price for.

Sorry for my noobiness, I'm a totally new Gateway user with a cart gathering dust until they release the 9.2 exploit.

Edit: to clarify I'm wondering if I can do this given that Gateway's released their 9.2 exploit. Not right now :P

It's possible, but most .cia don't work on classic mode.
However, its possible with bundled games like MK7 and MH3 if it's properly signed and should work under the flashcard's classic mode and after SystemTransfer, you can also write it to sysnand using hardware flasher.

You're unable to use devmenu/bigbluemenu without GW support or some kind of entry exploit. So you just have to wait until the support is released.

Sorry for not clarifying, I meant once the exploit is released and I can use my Gateway

I'm a little confused, I'm not trying to get the update data onto emuNAND. I'm not gonna use emuNAND to play 3DS games that I own legally because I have no reason for the extra hassle. Is there any way DevMenu/BigBlueMenu can install the update .CIA directly onto sysNAND? (I'll back up my sysNAND first of course, in case anything goes wrong.) But I'm wondering if this is possible at all. Oh and what do you mean by "after SystemTransfer, you can also write it to sysnand using hardware flasher"? Sorry I'm trying so hard to catch up

The best advise anyone can give you is do not mess with sysnand. Especially if you don't have a hardmod 3DS.

Going into Classic Mode and playing a retail game isn't a hassle at all and it takes you 10 seconds at most. If you think that's too much then maybe you should consider only playing retail cards or using a different flashcart.
You can also dump your game from the cartridge and play it as a rom with the red card or install it as a cia and have it always in the homemenu (of emunand if it exists).

The most important point in all this is that we don't even know yet how exactly the new support will work and if there is emunand. So you better wait and see what you can do once it's released.

these mentioned games (MK7, super mario land, MH3) work fine on SysNAND reportedly if you have the right .cia files. You should start bigbluebox as a .3ds file from gateway card and your sd card in your 3DS shouldn't have emuNAND partition on it to install to sysNAND. Installing stuff to sysNAND is always dangerous and shouldn't be attempted before taking precautions.

Implying that the .cia is able to boot on 'Classic Mode' which is the mode retail games boot on, basically it means if you installed the game on the sysNAND through .cia installation, it will still be able to work after you used SystemTransfer or installed it using the Gateway.

This. Especially after all I've been reading, and the fact that Nintendo is bound to release another update for SmashBros and other games, your sysNAND will be stuck at 9.2 which an update may require later firmware for (Amiibo I'm thinking), you're better off just getting used to doing everything (even retail cart playing) in emuNAND.
