The Lion King seems to work better with H-INIT set to auto rather than ON. The latter does weird things with the sound. I guess some games prefer it disabled. A shame we can't save per-game settings.

EDIT - Actually, I think it happens either way. Some occasional framerate issues and sound quirks. No biggie.

EDIT 2 - Disabling Force Update reduces the slowdown. Maybe worth trying with other games that slow down or have framerate issues.

Good info that probably will work good on certain games that have lag

Maybe the wrong thread, but I don't get how Jenesis doesn't display full screen. The games themselves aren't wide screen...

It's actually nothing to do with the aspect ratio, it's about the resolution. The Megadrive/Genesis is higher resolution than the DS so games would have to be scaled. The emulator has vertical scaling, but horizontal scaling wouldn't be possible without a severe hit in speed.

This is according to the emulator author, but the evidence is the Sonic Classic Collection which uses the same emulator and runs awfully due to using horizonal scaling.

Added.

Command & Conquer - Not working. Brown screen after post-title splashscreen.
Eternal Champions - Works.
FIFA International Soccer - Works. Crowd audio garbled.
FIFA Soccer 95 - Works. Crowd audio garbled.
FIFA Soccer 96 - Works. Crowd audio garbled.
FIFA 97: Gold Edition - Works. Crowd audio garbled.
Mortal Kombat - Works. Set H-INIT to ON.
Mortal Kombat II - Works. Set H-INIT to ON.

It's closed source, so cannot be ported. It needs to be open source to be able to be ported. Somebody would have to port a different emulator/start one from scratch.

I've not gotten round to trying it yet, but I'll try and do it tomorrow. I wasn't doubting you when you said it didn't work, just always work a double check. :)

By the way Drak0rex, some games do actually run without cropping due to their resolution. Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition runs without cropping, and is lovely if you enable 6-button pad mode too. :)

Sorry for the double post.

I did some fiddling today. Some games that suffer slowdown can be fixed by disabling Force Update in the menu. BUT, do not go the JenesisDS menu (by touching the touchscreen) because this will trigger the slowdown again. Pause using the Start button only.

Examples are The Lion King, Sonic 3D beta 73 etc.

It's really fussy though - going to the JenesisDS menu by pressing the touchscreen seems to trigger the slowdown again. I guess going to the JenesisDS menu reverts the setting and it's something that the emulator author never fixed.

It makes Sonic 3D beta 73 completely playable if you can deal with the graphical problems. The intro used to run at a snail's pace - this resolves that.

Well sad part is jenesisds will never be 100% compatible since it hasn't been touched in over 6 years

That's why it's important to find the optimal setting for each game; which games run better with H-INIT, Force Update or Sprite Masking enabled/disabled. The biggest annoyance is the inability to have per-game settings.

I'm perfectly happy to overlook little graphical and audio quirks as long as they're not game-breaking, but that will just unfortunately require us to fiddle with the settings depending on the game.

Same here but only thing is even minor graphic issues could make a game unplayable in latter parts (it could make text unreadable in a rpg for example)

Here's a weird one.

The level select for Sonic 2 requires you to go to the sound test and play 19, 65, 09 and 17. Except... 65 doesn't appear for me in JenesisDS. Can somebody check I'm not just going mad?

Otherwise, does anybody want to share a save file with the level select? :)

EDIT - Ignore this, I'm being dumb. The vertical scaling makes the 5 looks like a 6.:shy:
