Sorry I know I may sound like a hypocrite now but tbh I don't want it to ever happen because if all the 3d's will allow piracy so easy on latest FW on them then you can kiss good bye to any decent games unless they are 1st party by Nintendo cause lets face facts who would even buy the games when you can get them for free so easy! The Nintendo 3DS handheld would take a massive nosedive if this happens!!!

I don't really agree with that. A working exploit leaked right now will make 3DS's sales SKYROCKET this Christmas.

Piracy only discourages shovelware. People will still pay for good games.

The way I've interpreted it is that his hack, as he has programmed it, doesn't allow playing ROMs. That's not to say it can't be done, Cubic Ninja's QR code reader may be the open door people want, but Ninjhax itself is not built for that purpose.

In other words, Cubic Ninja QR codes can lead to piracy, but Ninjhax alone will not get you there.

Yes like I said the unit itself would sell by the bucket load but games are not going to sell so if games cannot sell for the unit then no one is going to make any games for it and then in turn would affect the unit itself which would cause it to just crash & burn! I would rather stick with the Homebrew exploit and flashcards on a certain FW at least its a small market that Nintendo can handle, this sort of way can increase the handhelds reputation but complete access on all 3DS's and FW's is not good news for any of us in the long run! :(

The day they make Animal Crossing for Android is the day I give up handheld gaming forever.

urgh, believing anything ever posted by govanil00ser= crap, he never did any real work, just ask any 3ds dev ever, so I don't get any of this
even if it results into a 3ds exploit, which has been speculated months ago, then why should it be related to govanilooser in any way at all?

Because he wants attention, probably.

he never claimed that he found or created the exploit, just that it is more then smealum says.

"cause lets face facts who would even buy the games when you can get them for free so easy!"
99% of wii owners and 99% of ds owners
and more than that of 3ds owners

but who would not want to work on keeping everything up to date with the latest fw's if there is no financial incentive to do so, GW maybe?
it could be a bad thing or a good thing

From this post all it reads like is smealum saying that it can't be used for piracy.
"It's just a vulnerability in a game to access a vulnerability in the system firmware. All they'd really need to do is patch the firmware and then the game doesn't even matter."
-eurogamer

also you cant just remove the region lock with just the userland like he claims. If so devs could chose if they want a region lock or not, which they cant.

I'm just metaphorically speaking! I'm not saying this would be the case.

yeah seriously. pirates are in the extreme minority of gamers. Aside from the extreme majority of people who don't even know about the piracy scene, many people are either too scared about getting in legal trouble (or at least getting their console banned) and stil others are mature enough to buy the titles they love to support developers anyway.

Out of the last 200 Homepass Miis I've met, I saw 2 that "recently played Cubic Ninja." Everyone else is playing Smash Bros and Fantasy life.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
