Hello, I don't have a Gateway yet and I only have a clone R4(and an upcoming DSTWO), but I would be preordering a Smash Bros soon, can I play with emunand safely..

You can't play it with emunand without a Gateway card. Smash bros uses the new encryption. Only Gateway supports it and you can't launch an 8.X emunand without having the Gateway card inserted.

Pretty much. You can boot classic mode still (original carts), but you have to have the Gateway in, boot, then swap for legit cart. So you may as well just dump it and play from the Gateway cart.

I'm assuming you're going to have the actual cartridge in one and the rom dump in the other? Anyway yeah you can play online in both but the rom one will need to be setup with emunand 2.3b to go online and renamed to .3dz It should already have the header if you're dumping it from your own cart. Both should work fine.

I believe it will corrupt your save data. I'm pretty new to gateway but I couldn't get around it.

I was thinking of buying a GateWay 3DS, but sadly my 3DS firmware is updated to v8 or something too high, and I don't have a NAND backup, because I just didn't inform myself about all this stuff until today.

Now I want to ask which firmware my 3DS would get if I reset the whole system? Will it stay the same, or will it go back to the firmware it had when I bought the system (which should be low as it was shortly after the release)?

It will stay as the same, factory reset wipes everything except the firmware.

2) Does the Gateway 3DS require something to be done to the 3DS hardware? I'm considering buying one since the 3DS is 4.5, but I am wary because I don't know if I need to open up the 3DS and tinker with it or if I only need the cart.

You would be better off selling your 4.x 3ds if you don't intend to use gateway anymore, you would probably turn a small profit by selling it as 4.x and buying a replacement console that's updated

No. The only reason you would need an injected header is for online multiplayer. As far as I can tell, downloading updates, DLC, and StreetPass are not affected by the header, just online play.

1) No. You need emunand 8.X to access Eshop. Gateway supports it, but only when the Gateway card is inserted.

2) No hardware mods. Just need to buy the cart.
