Hi guys, a few years ago (4 perhaps) I got my Xbox 360 (old style) flashed. Played the hell out of it at uni, then came home & didn't play so much. My little brother comes along and plays a brand new game on it, and then the next time I go to play, it won't let me play burned discs. (I used to have to insert an activation disc before the burned disc).

I'd like to play again, I have no desire to play online, would like to complete/replay some of the old games I had. Not fussed about the newer games either, I'm happy playing all the old ones I have from the time it was flashed.

My question is can I somehow revert the 'un-flashing' (sorry, don't know how else to describe) process? Would I have to start from scratch and get it flashed again?

Thanks
Beth

Thanks for the reply. I didn't do it myself last time, and the (fairly dubious) guy who did it for me is 'no longer in business'.

To reflash it myself would I just follow the guide as though it has never been flashed before? Thanks

If you have the DVD key (I doubt it) then you can reflash it quickly.
If not, you'll have to get a Probe 3.
Then it's a matter of extracting the key and flashing a new firmware to the DVD drive.

What you also can do is send me the DVD drive, I'll flash it for you for free and ship it back the same day if not the next day.
Only costs on this is the shipping, which should be 20 quid in total.
If you're interested in it, feel free to PM me.

I used to be in the very same situation... like exactly the same.
Only way to use it again is to have it reflashed. thats what I did. cost me about 60$ (should have been 40 but i had it shupped cuz i didnt wanna drive lol)

In a similar situation, Elite console, think it has LT 2.0? Was able to play Castlevania Lord of Shadows and havent played it since nor has the xbox firmware been upgraded. Questions:

1. Can the console fw be updated and have LT still working?
2. Is there a way to play latest games up to know with the old LT firmware? (Online is not important)

If you keep the old FW on the drive, chances are that it will get banned quicker.

Playing videos could be done via a USB drive (WMV and AVI only) or connecting it to Media center which gives you a few more.

So the newest games would be still playable offline with the old LT without doing anything else?

Yep, just download the update from xbox.com and upate it via a FAT32 usb drive ;]

So the update wont disable the LT fw? Cant remember but wasnt there an app used before buring to verify the iso? Or just burn with imgburn? And whats the activation disc all about?

Unless you're on dash 12xxx it won't reflash the DVD drive nope.
ISO checking can be done with ABGX, I wrote a tutorial about it as well.
Activation disc isn't required anymore.
Hasn't been for ages as well.

Thanks but got more questions if you dont mind. What is topology and GD3 all about? Is it a concern in this scenario? Also read that flashing 3.0 will mean all Lt 2.0 games need to be repatched?

edit was looking at fifa world cup and one of the comments said

"When I inserted the burn disc it asked me to update my console?
I am using Lt2.0. Is it save to update or not?"

Where in the UK are you? I can perform the upgrade for you (for free) if you're local.

EDIT: Provided that it's the phat console.

Topology data is the data checked by the 360.
It's patched in games for LT 3.0 firmwares to make it stealth as well as bootable.
Games without topology data won't boot.
Yes, it's better to repatch and reburn them (unless their already properly patched, just run the burned DVD through ABGX)

If your console is at 12xxx then I wouldn't update.
Seeing the 13xxx updates will reflash your DVD drive.
if you're on 14xxx then it's safe to update.

Also, you could, if paul is still willing to flash it for free, send your drive via the mail.
That is if you can disassemble the console yourself ;p
I also flash drives for people in Europe and that's pretty much the only way I do it.

For example, HOW is is risky to get banned if you extract the save files to the CFW?

isn't this proccess be done while you're offline?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
We are not Nintendo, so we don't know exactly how/why/when they ban, but better to stay on the safe side and not do shady stuff, if you don't want to be banned. Hayato is one of the most knowledgeable ones here on the subject and I believe what he says.

@BigOnYa, Yes ofc we don't know how Nintendo bans work, but if there are situations where a lot of people have tried safely then we can at least assume that this path is pretty much safe. To say don't try anything homebrew relative just to be safe forever is the easiest thing to say to someone. What I am trying to figure out here is with which cases and what actions got most of the people their bans for.
