I was looking for a firmware 4.5 or before 3DS XL on ebay but people are charging an arm and a leg for them even when they are missing stuff and have a lot of wear and tear.
I might just try looking else where.

I found a 3DSXL with 4.4 firmware really easily at Walmart, which was actually the first place I looked. I've also considered selling my 3DSXL and my Gateway, but I've always been too lazy to look into it. I would consider selling it to you if there was a reliable way to do it. I'm also unsure if that sort of thing is kosher to discuss in this thread, so that's all I'll say about that until I can find the pertinent rules.

Anyway, depending on where you live, the scarcity of compatible 3DSXLs might only be in your head. Try hitting up a Walmart or Target and checking out the serial numbers on the boxes before you get gouged on ebay.

I know some people claim that MT Card is a clone of gateway, but i was wondering, they have their saves located on the micro sd card and not on the SD card like the gateway. If they were cloning the software then why wouldnt they do like R4i did and just change the header a little as opposed to custom coding the location of file saves?

It's called reverse engineering.

Im well aware of what reverse engineering is. That being said, if the MTcard group is capable enough to be able to reverse engineer the code withing gateways launcher.dat, what is to prevent them from surpassing them?

Well they did in creating the multi-Rom feature. To answer your original question, it just makes sense to place the saves in the same directory as the ROMS. It's just the more organized and convenient way to do things and it's really only a little extra effort to put them there as opposed to the system SD slot. Probably just changing the filepath.

Well I wouldn't mind buying the 3DS for the right price depending on the condition it is in.
I live in a town that has a Walmart and Target but I was hoping to save a little bit and get it used since those stores sell them for 190-200USD.
I also heard that buying a 3DS XL that has a copyright of 2012 on the box doesn't necessarily mean it has firmware of 4.5 or earlier.

I did find this brand new red 3DS XL on Ebay and the picture shows a box that says 2012 but I am not sure if I can trust it.\\
I can't even contact the seller because Ebay says the amount of messages they get is too high.

You could always wait for sales. I don't think 3DSXLs depreciate in value very quickly. Anyway, the whole 2012 thing is somewhat inaccurate. The serial number on the side of the box is what you want. Mine was SW12043XXXXX and it came with 4.4. The lower the number, the lower the firmware.

The only problem with Ebay is I can only send a certain amount of messages per day and some accounts do not accept messages at all because of high contact volume.
This makes it hard to get into contact with the seller.

I have found new unopened boxes of 3DS XL models on Ebay going for around 150-160USD but I cannot tell if they are the latest model or not because they do not show the back of the box in pictures......and I cannot get in contact with the seller.

New packaging for the second batch of MT-cards. The edge seems to have been shaved off.
I like the first one. Recently placed an order and seems like I will be getting the second one.

no storefront I'm aware of (at least on pc) requires the devs to pay for the keys they generate

they don't lose money doing this, even if someone decide to chargeback
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so that seems to be a pretty common thing, i kinda blame the dev for that one though as they were giving out like 5 keys to someone just because they asked for multiple copies for review for whatever reason and there were multiple people doing this. he should've seen the red flags
  • linuxares @ linuxares:
@The Real Jdbye Yet devs tell US that they get charged possible charge backs? Its no idea we keep this up since I have to trust the devs more than key reseller sites.

(the chargeback is a penalty fee from the Credit card company, apparently around 30$)
