Is it possible to use 'Download Play' in gateway mode (3ds xl fw 4.4) with roms with another 3ds that have updated firmware 7.0 (not emunand)?

If yes, what roms are compatible that I can use with the 'Download Play' feature?

Will the 3ds xl fw 4.4 auto download firmware update file when I switch on its' wifi even though I have never setup any wifi connection?

It will work fine. All games with download play work.

Not unless you pass a spotpass relay.

Thanks. How can I know that I am within the range of a spotpass relay?

For info, I have yet to set emunand with my 3ds xl fw 4.4 so mine is gateway mode w/out emunand.

You can't really. It's not a big deal really, if you ever see the message to update just hit no. If you set up an emunand then you really won't have anything to worry about because you'll already be updated while in Gateway mode.

Also, don't set up an emunand yet, because it only functions correctly in 2.0b2, and there's a very small but realistic chance of bricking your 3ds using that firmware.

is the information on this thread correct, redkeyboard?. I believe it was u who told me it could be possible to update a 2nd 3ds on v1.00 via download play, i only got connection errors, and gave up trying.

download play doesnt work between a EU 3ds and a US game ( if you use region spoofing) so thats the only way that download play doesnt work. between emunand and sysnand it works fine
is this game dependent? or 100% for everything, download play does not work between 3ds regions?

wel i tried ithis a few months ago:

i own 2 3ds one on 6.3 EU and one on 4.5 EU

i played mario kart with region sppofing so it was like this

3ds (EU) with a US mario kart rom <----> a EU 3ds +download play = doesnt work
3ds (EU) with a EU mario kart rom <----> a EU 3ds +download play + does work

futhermore, the problem doesnt lay in the connection between the2 3dses but when the EU 3ds with the US rom is trying to set up an IR connection between those 2, it gives on error (after pressing 'local multiplayer' it gives the error)

ic, so i also need to have 3DSes from the same region and only run roms for the same region as well.

I never said it was possible. I said it's worth a try and I had no idea if it would work or not.

hence, "it could be possible" , i said.

Anyways, how is it that this is working for OP and not for me?

What? OP said nothing about using download play to update his 3DS.

Also, there's a difference between "could be possible" and "I have no idea if this would work but it's worth a try." I'm guessing English isn't your first language, just letting you know.

EDIT: Why are you getting connection errors? Are you using the same region rom?

yeah, 1st 3DS (U) with GW and Luigis Mansion 2 (E), trying to update a 2nd 3DS (E). Only connection errors popped up each time, immediatly after trying to search for the 2nd 3ds.

I guess it means that download play only works if the two consoles are from the same region, no matter the rom.

i did the exact same thing today, with a E version of mario kart, and E and J 3ds... very annoyed

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
