You're conveniently forgetting about the part where Nintendo has been in the video game industry since Generation 2 (in the west since Generation 3) while Sony entered the market during Generation 5 - their long-term franchises obviously have higher sales because they've been on the market for at least 10 years longer.

Not only that, Sony's focus was never first-party development - they focus on manufacturing hardware relevant to third-parties while Nintendo creates "systems that play their games, not games that play on their systems" which is painfuly apparent in the case of the Wii, the DS and the Wii U.
So you admit it then, Sony focus on making a system for third parties (multi plats, incidentally) while Nintendo only (seems) to look at improving THEIR games and hoping to snag some third party support if it comes at all. Personally, I want Nintendo to KEEP exclusives while producing hardware that will have people say, "Wow, about the same game, similar potential, same multi plats, but also those games I grew up on." We all know nothing will likely change from what Foxi4 pointed out. Nintendo is hell bent on it, and really I don't care. Keep making Metroid/Zelda/Mario and I will keep playing my backups;-)

...until Nintendo loses all third-party support, becomes unable to support itself with just its first-party due to rising development costs and extended development cycles and gradually loses all relevance in the gaming sector. I'd like to remind everyone that there's no such thing as "too big to fail" - SEGA used to be Nintendo's equal competitor and their last console was the Dreamcast.

First-party support only no longer cuts it - you need a large number of developers supporting your system, otherwise you just won't keep up with the competition and your customers will suffer through "game droughts" - long stretches of time with no relevant releases. Third-party is becoming more and more important and if Nintendo doesn't embrace it, they will suffer the consequences. It's no longer a "privilege" to develop for Nintendo systems like it used to be, they're not doing anyone any "favors" by licensing games - it's the developers who give them favors, no games equals no system sales and no licensing money.

Yeah, I agree, and would bet on that BUT life has fooled the Vegas and common sense "odds" before;-)

No, just no. Hate to break it to ya, but those who think graphics and raw power is everything are delusional.

Graphics are one of the biggest part of a game. When purchasing a game, I weigh in the capabilities of the console in relation to the graphics. Why? Because all the best looking games are (over 90% of the time) THE BEST GAMES. It SHOWS that the developers put effort into the game. Mediocre games are most always graphically flawed.

Good graphics are the guarantee that the game has effort put into it. When someone builds a beautiful violin, they don't spay it by making it sound like shit. They make sure that it sounds like gold. When someone builds an amazing house, they don't spay it by fucking up the electricity wiring and plumbing. They make sure all that shit works.

close the door on yer way out !!

Why's that guy so bitter all the time? I'm new here.

Graphics are good to a point, but if the game play sucks balls, graphics don't mean a damn thing. Where do you draw the line? There has to be a balance at some point.

How many games with good graphics (visual) have bad game play (performance)? I just explained WHY a CREATOR makes their creation a beautiful thing if it's something to marvel at. You don't get all nice and dressed up (visual) to eat a shitty TV dinner and watch Netflix (performance). You don't work hours upon hours in the gym for a nice body (visual) to f*** fat chicks (performance). I could go on, but I hope you get the point.

Philosophy, son.

Lair. That is all. Looked good but it sucked balls. To say the Wii U will never gave good games is asinine.

Ocarina of Time. That is all. Halo: Combat Evolved. That is all. The Last of Us. That is all. (In their respective eras.)

Matter of fact, take a look at this list. http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/all?view=condensed&sort=desc
Or this list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famitsu
Or THIS list. http://ca.ign.com/games/reviews?sortBy=score&time=range&startTime=1996&endTime=2013#
(I'm not sure if they will link it automatically to highest rated games of all time, so you might have to choose that yourself.)

"Because all the best looking games are (over 90% of the time) THE BEST GAMES." There are exceptions to the rule, but that does not break the rule. You can't generalize and say "Well this game is great looking and sucks, therefore graphics don't matter." ALL the best rated games are the best LOOKING games, in respect to their time frame and the power of the console it was on.

Philosophy is obviously not some people's forte. I agree with your post.

I agree with your post.

Too bad, the Wii U is going to have many good looking games irrespective of what any naysayers will assume. Gameplay is the most vital factor.

Well, usually the nicest looking games are in genres that myself, and many others, don't like at all. I find FPS games to be too difficult, too scary, and boring. As far as racing games, the best looking at the ones intended to be the most realistic. Again, those are boring if you don't get the high skills. I prefer games like MarioKart and ExciteBots to GT, or Need 4 Speed. The best looking games are rarely a game that I want to play.

as i predicted the multiplat games this gen are going to be all pretty much the same looking except for a few reflections here and there which REAL gamers don't give a fuck about. the ps4 and xbone aren't that much different from the 360/ps3 as i predicted would happen. since consoles are no where close to getting the resolutions or speeds pc's can get.

You're kind of dumb. So basically a good looking game is most likely good, but that doesn't mean necessarily a bad looking game is most likely bad. And in RESPECT to what the WiiU is capable of, and if a developer takes advantage of the consoles power, will determine if the game looks good or not.

Do people not understand what "in respect to a consoles power" means? MarioKart is one of the best looking games on the Wii and 3DS. Zelda games are consistently almost THE best looking games on a Nintendo console.

Cool story, bro, calling me dumb for having an opinion on Wii U having good looking games that are enjoyable. Keep it up, I'm sure your ad hominem attacks will take you far. If you want to be taken seriously, I'd suggest you utilize a little more civility in your debates instead and let people say their piece.

wut.

So we can have the exception of bad looking games that play well but not good looking games that play poorly?

To be fair the examples of BOTH of these are few and far between and a good majority of games that play well also look good and vice versa.
