Just like Dinoh said, get yourself a Dazzle capture card, they have pretty good reviews.
When you change to HD you'll see the difference. I can't nevergo back to 480p and will never do.

@LA Every TV/Monitor now have more than one HDMI Input, where have you been?, He don't need an extra TV/Monitor to record and play he just need one. All he need to do is to change the Input Signal on the TV/Monitor and thats it!
Just because you want shiny graphics, doesn't mean you have to turn other minds into wanting what you want. 480p is as good as HDMI IMO and I think I'm not the only one here to think that.

Wow is this for real guys?

You guys must be really cheap. HDMI TVs/Monitors are not expensive(Depends on how big). I have a PlayStation 3D Display and it was only $150. Full HD 1080p, 3D, 240Hz. And the HDMI cables are just 5 bucks. Damn even the Wii U bring one.

And the Capture Cards are not expensive neither.

But yeah if you don't have a Job...
And Classic games looks ALOT better on emulators with HD textures and filters.

Not cheap, we just don't give two shits about quality if the game itself is good, also a HDMI cable isn't that cheap in some countries like mine, and capture cards can cost almost up to 40$ AFAIK.

He is likely not using a monitor with 2 hdmi ports and will need to have a TV nearby to record and play. Hence why he is asking. Most games don't push out 1080p so I don't know why you are complaining about it lol even the Xbox One and PS4 aren't pushing 1080p they already stated that games will be at 720p and upscaled to 1080p. I only have that TV in my room and it looks loads better with classic games than any cutting edge TV made today.
I actually do own a monitor with dual HDMI ports.

Oh and the GTX 580 is like a rather high end 500 dollar graphics card. I'm pretty sure it could handle the rendering just fine.

Provided you have any form of Video In, sure. You probably don't though because it's just not standard equipment. What you could do is use a DVR if you have one.
Well my graphics card does have a DVI port and I could get a DVI to HDMI cable and connect it that way.

I do also own a DVR, it's from my cable provider (dish), how could I set that up ?

Console output to DVR, DVR to TV - same as with Aerial, just with different cords. If it doesn't have an HDMI input, use composite/component.
I'd rather have it in the highest quality, it only has one HDMI port though...could I still somehow get it in high quality ? Oh and how would I transfer my recording over to my pc ?

What model is this DVR? You can only use the Inputs that are available to you - putting an Output into an Output doesn't amount to anything.

It's this exact model:
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/wi-fi/hopper-with-sling.aspx

On the box, on the model section it simply says 'Hopper with slingbox'
Every DVR has RCA ports at the back (or front) for input, higher quality ones have HDMI. I can't seem to find the actual specifications of your model other than which ports it has, not if they're input or output ports. For now, connect your WiiU using RCA and check if that works. A photo of the unit's back would be helpful if you can provide one.

As for "getting the footage to your PC", use whichever method you use for putting recorded TV programmes on it and if you can't think of one, take the HDD out. Here manuals usually help. :P

Here's the backside of it:

That's a very low-quality photo so I can't really determine what's the input and what's the output - can you confirm the model number at all so that I could have a look at the manual? It should be at the back of the DVR. In any case, to get the recorded video out, you'd connect this box to a computer using an Ethernet cable (two slots on the right-hand side of the photo) or using WiFi. Worst-case scenario, you'll have to use coaxial for input, but let's hope you can use the other ports.

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I have the right manual now. Gonna have a quick look.

Right, I've verified everything I wanted to know.

All of the back ports are Outputs except the Coaxial... which means that the DVR alone won't do, unless there are some additional inputs on the front that I don't know of. This means that you'll have to convert the signal from composite/component/HD to Coaxial using what's called an RF Modulator. Such devices aren't expensive - they cost around $15 for composite-compatible ones and up from there depending on the quality. You'd have to connect the outputs of your console to the modulator and run a coaxial cable from the modulator to the DVR and finally to the TV. This way, the DVR should be able to record footage from the console and display it on the TV (albeit with some lag due to all the conversion). That's the "cheapest way to do it".

...it's also the "busy idiot" way of doing this though. At a barely higher price you can easily get USB-based capture cards that will do the exact thing, except with less lag and directly to your PC, which is what I'd recommend in your case. Your DVR just "doesn't cut it", which is a shame.

Do you know of an HD usb capture card ?
