hey there i have a question. I have been looking around trying to find an mmorpg thats the best. Can you suggest any, and please tell me why you suggest that specific one. thanks in advance
WoW, GW2, Rift, Tera, Phantasy Star Online 2, Age of Wushu...
And then there's older ones like MapleStory, Dofus, Ragnarok Online (and 2)...
And then there's Runescape.
Guild Wars 2
It removes the need to accept quests and hand them in to save time
Dungeons require only 5 people
The cash shop is purely for aesthetics and convenience, nothing will make you overpowered
World vs world vs world is extremely fun
New content every 2 weeks
With the new content always come new weapon/armor skins
You don't need a party to share loot from a kill, even on champions and world bosses.
There's a lot more, but you're better off watching this. Just to note, the review is from back in September and there's been lots of content added and fixes to the game.
Well, I have very limited and somewhat outdated experience so feel free to completely ignore my comment here
but as far as paid mmorpg, obviously the first one to come to mind is World of Warcraft ... First free to play one to come to mind for me is Flyff.
Feel free to make fun of me now for my comments (I can probably count the MMORPG's I've actually played or even seen live gameplay for on one hand) but that's the best of what little I'm aware of.
Depends what you want from an MMO.
Guild Wars 2 has a lot of random shit and exploration, but its combat system is abysmal and its PvP content suffers likewise. But damn is it pretty, I spend most of my time exploring.
Ragnarok Online is an older MMO and you'd have to find a private server (official servers are trash), but it still to this day has the most solid combat and PvP. I've yet to EVER feel an MMO could stand up to it.
Tera is basically cutting edge action combat. Its combat system is phenomenal and no other action MMO even comes close to its glory. A bit on the short end content wise, but i've never had a game where i'm actually looking forward to killing 15 of a monster for a quest, because the combat system keeps things fresh feeling. Also BAMs (Big-ass monsters) are damn fun.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is japanese but has an english patch...supremely fun if PS is your thing, or even if it isn't since I didn't usually like PS, but love PSO2.
Final Fantasy XIV: ARR should be out soon, but it's buy2play and I assume it has a subscription (no firm idea though). It looks pretty solid and is getting some high praise already.
Maplestory if you're feeling adventurous...it's unique.
Landmines to avoid:
WoW and Rift. Both are god awful. There's nothing really to accomplish. Neither has good PvP. WoW has had its content slashed by Blizzard, they closed the gap to endgame so you get there faster...why i'll never know, there's nothing at endgame except to collect raid gear for absolutely no reason other than to show off you have a shiny sword the other guy doesn't have. Rift is basically the same bag except it still has its midgame content intact. Sadly it levels out to a retarded pvp system that has you grinding deaths to gain points for gear against players in top tier pvp gear, which you have no chance in hell of beating unless they sit afk for 10 minutes.
Runes of Magic. Pay2win.
Allods Online. Massive grindfest WoWclone. I've heard rumours of pay2win but I ditched before endgame because I saw the trainwreck coming a mile away.
There's few MMOs I haven't at least tried...i'm too lazy to type them all out, i'd be here all day.
Be more specific about what you want.
Final Fantasy XIV development seems to be going well ^.^ . have not played a final fantasy game since 1 and 2 re-release for PSP. I will difinetely check it out when its released even if its 'buy to play' like i said i do not have alot of experience with MMO's, i like the review of guild of wars 2 intro its basically saying subscription MMOs turn out to be a large investment over time. i think the style of play that you can get from Dmc is favorable in my opinion but then again i am kind of liking the way you play in star wars the old republic. I wanted to also try WoW for you can try it for free and i have seen a lot of people attracted to it. You are kind of right it seems lame. I saw my friend playing it on his laptop once and it seemed like all it was about was killing a number of wierd looking plants to get points
I was pretty addicted to Wonderking but its down so...Anyways its similar to Maplestory, nice 2D scrolling game.
Warhammer AoW is it a good game?
Runes of Magic. Pay2win.
I disagree with that. I didn't play the game for long but my brother did. After 6 months of playing he had a shit load of gold and had amazing gear. All I can remember about the gear is that is was full of stats including the red ones. He had a Warrior/Mage at the time and was 1 shotting people in duels with a normal attack that was buffed with the fire infusion.
I haven't played it in ages but I remember for a fact it was pay2win. You can gain massive advantages through the cash shop. Maybe the changed it, but even if they did the game wasn't that great to begin with. Neatest thing about it was dual-classing and that got old since classes aren't really that interesting anyway.
and oh god the balancing. The balancing was just god awful. Some classes were completely useless, some pretty much required to be end-game competent. Who knows if they fixed that but I kinda doubt it, it went a very long time without fixing AFAIS.
The thing is players can sell diamonds to each other so you don't need to pay real money. I'm not sure if it was a new feature or not. Dual classes was a nice idea, but the unbalanced classes was just absurd lol. It did a good job at being a WoW clone, maybe being even better, but I was never a fan of WoW to begin with so that's why I didn't last in this game.
