I hated the tacked on motion controls in Twilight Princess, but after playing Skyward Sword I really can't imagine going back to buttons. Obviously, these controls are not suitable for handhelds, but other than that I never want to play a new Zelda game without motion controls anymore.

Oh well at least we can still be lazy with any upcoming 3ds zelda games, can't possibly use motion controls there

they can do some kind motion controls on the 3ds,
Zelda OoT 3D dose have a motion controls option for some items (like the slingshot and hero bow)
They were optional though and even then not a huge part of the game, nothing compared to sword swinging

I can stand motion control on a normal home console, but I can guarantee that Nintendo (or any other manufacturer for that matter) will receive a broken console after I throw it (by accident) at the wall during an intense part of a game. Motion control on a console connected to a TV = OK, maybe even HELL YEAH! if implemented properly. Motion control on a hand held console = Me looking stupid on a bus, train or subway and otherwise feeling stupid at home. Just doesn't work that great somewhere else than at home when no one (maybe a few friends, girlfriend or wife tops) watching.

Also I'm so gonna send hate mail regardless of the person responsible for the next Zelda game that requires some kind of microphone interface during gameplay. I swear I spend about 1 hour trying to blow the f'ing whistle in the DS Zelda series.. Blowing on a mic and expecting it to continuously register the whole thing as one blow is just.. Well I have to say but honestly too far fetched. :glare:

of course, this counts for only the wii and wii u... shesh, on the 3ds, the maximum will be stylus only controls. looking around was just a little gimmick they put in cause they could.

The motion controls on SS are leagues better than on TP, but I still wish they were optional and you could play with more traditional controls if that's what floats your boat.

The DS used the mic + stylus + buttons.

Doesn't the 3DS have a gyro, mic, 3D, touch pad, buttons, even a camera? Imagine all the possibilities for using them on a handheld.. Not trolling or anything, but some features have honestly been a real pain for me. I don't mind a so-called gimmick used in any console, if the thing doesn't cause problems. If I have to spend a long time trying to make the console work for me, the game has some kind of problem. This can happen with any console available and any to be released. I just really, really, really hope that games don't have features just to make some use of them. If the thing doesn't work for a certain part, it doesn't have to be implemented! :I

EDIT: Typo'd

I strongly disagree: Using the gyro was a more precise and faster method to aim! And I am not the only one feeling that way...

If we want to go really off topic and speculate about the next handheld-Zelda I personally think it is going to be top-down view similar to LA and ALTTP. I think Nintendo is waiting for an opportunity to do it again since MC and I think now is the time... I honestly also hope they`ll do it!

After the error that is TP and it's read errors of my actions, I'll never play another motion control zelda. Childtendo/Familytendo/Shoveltendo your officially dead to me.

In all honestly, I find it hard to go back to the gamepad-style controls of previous titles now with what Skyward Sword offered. The combat and control schemes just won't have the added depth provided by motion controls. If there's one thing Nintendo nailed with Skyward Sword, it was proving that motion controls could work if the effort was put into it. Sure, they took it a bit too far in some cases, such as the bad sky-diving or harp playing controls, but in a nutshell, Skyward Sword got motion controls down pat, and it's really hard to return to the old schemes without losing that type of depth offered.

Right, because Twilight Princess was clearly developed for the Wii hardware with the mindset of motion controls highly prioritized in the development cycle. /sarcasm

That means the new 3DS game is going to use the freakin' stylus again.. =_=

How so? The last 3DS Zelda game didn't. Sure it was a port but the circle pad means you can now incorporate effective 3D environment navigation, more so than the D-Pad could.

If anything I'd think that Nintendo would distance themselves from the stylus based stuff, especially since they're new "thing" is 3D and stylus based stuff requires you to look at the non-3D screen. Plus the circle pad would be stupid to ignore.

"I honestly think we cannot go back to button controls now", Aonuma revealed in a new ONM interview (via Kotaku). "So I think that these controls will be used in future Zelda titles, too."
I guess its time for me to say goodbye to playing any new zelda -_-
at least I still have the old ones

Good point, because the zelda games with motion have been fucking terrible.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
