Hello all, I am currently trying to convert some Neo Geo roms for DS use; I have tried two different mame sets, made sure all the required files are in the bios zip folder but nothing I do can seem to get the exe to produce a .neo file. It seems to be looking for the "sfix.sfx" file and cannot find it. I double checked the bios zip file and found "sfix.sfix" but not ".sfx"

I found the .sfx file online incase it is actually different and added it to the zip so command line can find the file, but it still throws the same error that it can't find it, just says missing file.

Does anyone know why it doesn't like this? Are there different versions that are somehow specific to different romsets? Feeling a bit lost here

Hmm, so Im trying the method here again, and I'm getting a little farther. No longer looking for the sfix file now its saying opening file x21.bin - missing rom file.. I'll attach a photo. I've opened up a zip and looked for the file it says is missing; in one case it was .bin instead of .rom, so I renamed the extensions and ran the converter again, still no .neo files and missing file message..

This is really bugging me.. @Indy13 when I tried the method you linked above, it told me "neodsconvert" not a valid command or application. Not sure, did I need to install the exe somehow?

EDIT: Okay, so, not sure what I changed but now it at least it is taking the command when I use the -bios8 deal; but it still says missing file.. The file its asking for is a .bin file but mine is .c1; I tried changing the extension on this one, but it still didnt like it... I will scour the internet for a collection with .bin extensions I guess? This doesn't seem right I must be missing something

EDIT2: Okay, so of the 4 or 5 collections I browsed online, every one of them had the .c1 .s1 etc extensions instead of .bin. What the hell? I tried an ordinary mame set and it at least had .rom extensions, but this still did not please NeoDSConvert...

@ichig0 my question will seem a little stupid, but have you checked that the games you are trying to convert are indeed MAME games and not FBA? NeoDS is still quite old, have you tried with a MAME 37b5 romset?

(not The actual topic but)

I read somewhere that to run neods correctly you need to have a Ramdisk, I made the image but now the emulator does not recognize the roms.

I have modified the _neods.ini for the directory but I have not made any progress
Any advice?

Perhaps in the case of the SD slot of a DSi, but normally it is not necessary for DS phat/lite. Rather, it is advisable to use a RAM expansion cartridge in slot-2 (e.g., a Supercard SD with 32mb RAM) to avoid slowdowns or even game crashes.

I can't remember exactly what all I tried at this point but if we could link here I would show you the *archive* I used. It was indeed 0.37b5.. All struggles aside though, a friend helped me out with sourcing some pre-converted files, something I am eternally grateful for ;).
I just wish there were a build optimized for DS2... Oh well. Can't really complain about Neo Geo on DS!

Also, do you happen to know, with a slot-2 flashcard does stuff like blazing star or metal slug run a lot better? w/o its kinda like playing these games in slow motion. Blazing star especially

Once I found the converted roms, what made the difference for me was just having the roms in the same directory as the nds file; I'll have to see if I was ever able to actually point it somewhere else. Kinda a pain depending on your shell, but if you have stuff set to only display DS games it's not so bad.

On the ram disks, Im not sure that it actually needs them, unless TWiLight Menu creates them for you automatically; My NeoDS runs fine on my DSi XL and I never messed with those options.

so it's already a good point if you were able to obtain the games you wanted, I also think, if you still want to convert your own games that you should also try the mame 0.198 romsets with the bios universe (this bios solves a lot of problems depending on the games, I'm thinking in particular of Fatal Fury 3)

On DStwo you can also use Final Burn Alpha with Dingux (DSTWO Linux beta1.0), look at this entire thread you will find the necessary information and links

https://gbatemp.net/threads/dstwo-linux-beta1-0-release.339028/

Concerning the use of a ram expansion pak, personally, I only tested the EZ flash 3in1 and it actually improves a lot of things depending on the games, I'm actually thinking of Blazing Star or Metal Slug 5, after that like I said it above, the bios with which you are going to convert will be important and here again, I recommend the bios universe

Just as you say, the roms are in the same directory as the .nds, I have tried, as I said, to modify the neoDS.ini but nothing works
The only way I see to get the roms for them is to set the Ramdisk slot to 0 so they can run. I have had more problems such as graphical, speed and audio errors
In TWM++ you can modify parameters for the boot of the games, that is where I have seen that depending on the options you have it behaves in one way or another

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?
