(This is my first time posting here so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place)

I've been digging through the files of "Bara no Ki ni Bara no Hanasaku" due to someone else's mention of it recently and have been going through the process of trying to find where the text data is located. So far I've been able to unpack the bgms and voice lines, along with the cgs and backgrounds. The game's data is stored primarily within two .afs files and the 1st is where I believe the text data has to be located. (The 2nd is just the bgm and seiyuu data) The 1st is filled with compressed .gim files, and I've been using Puyo Tools to unpack and view them. My issue is that any file I think could possibly contain dialogue in some form gives me the same error of "index was outside the bounds of the array" when attempting to view/unpack it. I've tried looking around for answers but most posts about this error don't seem to be made from similarly applicable situations.

I have experience with making PC and Vita TL patches but am a complete novice with the PSP, so I also don't even know if it would make sense for the dialogue to be stored in an image file format lol;; But it's the last place I could think of the text being and only getting this error on certain files named things like "dialog1" and not background image files makes me believe it more.
Any help would be appreciated! 💖

The .zp files are compressed with gzip

.gim files are texture files - nothing more, nothing less. I have seen other games mix gim files with scripts (as a different file format), but that's a rarity.

Compare the files from the PC version to the PSP port and work from there. They're usually about the same unless it's a remake.

I've attached a decompressed and converted gim file.

Ah yes yes I've been using 7zip to decompress the .gim.zp files into just .gim files! I've been able to view .gim files containing cgs and backgrounds just fine so far, only larger ones with titles such as "dialog#" have given me issues.

I had originally been looking into the PC version as that's what I would prefer to work with, but I ran into a wall with a few of the file types used (specifically .vpk files) and being unable to find any tools available to extract them. I had thought maybe the PSP version would have more straightforward file types with documentation and tools available compared to the PC engine.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.

@BakerMan, Any idea what happened? I hope that your brother's doing good.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
What matters now is that he's doing alright.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But you still don't know what it was?
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Has he had seizures before?
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
