Nintendo Switch successor reportedly demoed to developers during Gamescom

nintendo-switch.jpg

Yet another Nintendo Switch 2 rumour is circulating. After reports of a 2024 launch and dev kits being sent to third-parties, Eurogamer has shared that Nintendo apparently showcased the handheld's successor to developers during Gamescom; during which the company demoed a "souped up version" The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, this was for the purpose of a tech demo, without any confirmation that the game will be re-released.

This report was corroborated by Video Games Chronicle (VGC)'s own sources. VGC's own report further mentions that another title was demoed on the system: Epic’s The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 tech demo which was used to showcase the PS5's and Xbox Series X's power in 2021.

VGC reports that the demo apparently leverages Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology, with advanced ray tracing enabled and visuals "comparable to Sony‘s and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles". However, the outlet also mentions that this does not mean that the Switch's successor will be as powerful as the PS5 or Xbox Series X; but Nintendo has hinted at the potential that it will utilise upscaling technology with its past patents.

Thanks to @Vine-gar for the tip and you can head to their original discussion thread here.

Well would you look at that. I called this being on the front page.

Ngl, I still think that using botw as the test game is a bit on the downside, but I hope this can get better as time goes by. Keys hope that the new soecs for Nintendo's console is better than the Switch but still weaker than the PS5 and Xbox Series.

I saying this cause while everyone wished that Nintendo's games are great in terms of graphical and gameplay performance, I choose the games themselves that the team puts love and care into them more than just that.

Performance aside, perhaps my main desire for this thing is for it to actually have a God-damn interface. The Switch's UI was such a fucking turd, and its system software was such a massive downgrade from the Wii U's.

Knowing Nintendo, I wouldn't put it past them to do that. I'll be annoyed if they do it nonetheless, though.
Is likely going to be very close to Switch UI which is enough for most people. Since when does successful company risk alienating existing customers.

I sincerely hope that Denuvo comes to Switch 2 games ( that would mean CFW is available ), before that happens Denuvo is helping to level the playing field for Switch 2 by slowing down PC versions.

It's not exactly a "rumor" any more once they're demoing it. It'll be announced either fall or winter of this year and be out probably summer next year. Seven years is a long lifespan for a system that was already a generation and a half behind at launch.
I wouldn't say long, but that's a pretty standard lifespan. It feels a lot shorter because people had difficulty getting a Switch for the first year it was out and there wasn't a whole lot of noteworthy stuff at first.

Microsoft and Bethesda say "hi". Also Blizzard and EA.

Well, it surprises me that they let the cat out of the bag with Christmas looming.

Because many people that were going to get a Switch, now are going to wait. I thought they were gonna give the Switch a last, massive push on Christmas season.

It only needs to run the games at 1080p resolution with Nvidia latest Lovelace architecture. Even if it's running at 30fps, DLSS3 will double it to 60fps.

This New Switch will most likely have 2 screens - Nintendo Online Subscription has already released GBA games, the next in line will be DS games, it can't be done without 2 screens. They have recently shutdown 3DS eShop, that means they can resell 3DS games again on the new console. Plus, BotW was originally developed for 2 screens: TV and Wii U tablet. Now they can remake the game using the bottom screen to display map and inventory - the way it was meant to be played.

If Nintendo is "with it" it'll be a PC console. My guess is that it will be yet another closed-sourced system with lots of DRM, and will perma-ban your Nintendo account then explode when you attempt to hack it for homebrew. THEY JUST NEVER LEARN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hateit: :hateit: :hateit:

Yeah, I vented a little. Also, the exploding part was pure hyperbole, but I thought it was funny.

How does duenvo unlock CFW? I'm sorry, but I dont have much knowledge on that.
If Switch 2 can't be hacked there is no need for Denovo. You don't see it on Xbox nor PS

Thank would be Nintendo flip. Probably will wait to see if Nintendo make bad hardware (like the joy con) again.

Or buy a Samsung flip 5 and runs some DS emulator on it.

You wish there will be CFW, me too.

No DRM needed for console. They didn't even add it when Switch have CFW. They even let you download from freeshop for a very long time on the 3ds. Big cheers for Nintendo. Very friendly company. Don't mess with Ninteodo online and you will be fine.

As long as the library isn’t filled with ports like the Switch was for most of it’s life and the online is free. Took almost a year for the Switch to get something new that was worth playing on it. (This can be avoided with backwards compatibility, although I’ll probably still use my Switch for old games because that’s where my saves are). And Switch Online as of now is a mess. I had it free for a year because it came with one of the few games I own but I never renewed it because the service is horrible. The next console needs to do away with this rental thing they got going on and bring back Virtual Console and free online. Or not. It’s not like my Wii U is hacked and I can play most of those games for free
Either way I’m not buying any new console unless is has a new Metroid or 3D Zelda on it, or it’s stupid easy to hack like the Wii and 3DS were.

The online definitely won't be free. Nintendo, like Sony, learned that people are willing to pay for what's essentially just P2P matchmaking.

I will never understand people that pay for online play.

It kinda made sense before the 6th gen because of the technology available at the time, but after that there was no reason for people to have to pay for it on specific platforms.

Get as much enjoyment out of it as you possibly can.
i cant even do that bc i already played odyssey by certain means on another platform.

But that doesn't even matter, just finally owning a switch and mario odyssey NORMALLY feels good and thus the enjoyment i get from this game is just greatly increased.

The only real complaint i have with the switch is that every fucking game is 65 euros. Now I understand the pain.

i wonder what screen size they chose. for me personally, a 5.x"-7" in classic form would be ideal. larger displays lead to larger outer dimensions, and that compremits the handheld idea. A dream would be one foldable display with a similar folding mechanic as the DS/3DS. Then also gladly larger. If it is 3d capable, it would be a day 1 purchase. what would be your wish regarding the display size?
if they really want to bring something fundamentally new, it would be great to bring a handheld without a display :) just a controller sized/shaped console and RGB laser diodes that works with eye tracking and directly targets the eyes. so you could realize VR/AR, without additional glasses. and be blind eventually, if something goes wrong, but sacrifices must be made.

Call it next gen when you're cheating using AI upscaling. Might as well let AI do your homework too.
