Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox all to skip E3 2023, according to report
E3 2023 has been hyping itself up as a grand return to form, with the annual event to make its return to Los Angeles after years of cancellations due to covid. However, a report from "multiple knowledgeable sources" over at IGN claims that the big three--Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation, will all be skipping E3 2023. The last E3 to take place, in 2019, saw a lack of support from PlayStation, who did not appear at the convention, and held their own separate press conference outside of E3, though both Nintendo and Xbox featured large booths at E3 2019. Last year also saw both Nintendo and PlayStation not make an appearance at Europe's equivalent annual show, Gamescom. A recent interview with Xbox CEO Phil Spencer reveals that Xbox wants to support E3 and the ESA, but hints at Xbox's press conference merely taking place at a convenient time with E3's event, rather than at the show itself.
Xbox is on the board of the ESA, and I think a successful and healthy ESA is critical to what we're trying to go do. So we place our showcase, like we always have done, at a time where hopefully it's convenient for press and even consumers that are going to the E3 event, and that's what we're trying to do now. We will continue to work with ESA in terms of their plans. As I said, we're on the board, and we want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to help make the E3 successful.
E3 2023 will take place in Los Angeles from June 13 to June 16th.
