Hello world of GBAtemp!
Welcome back to saulfabreg Wii VC, and this awesome world of Wii!
As i've said in a previous blog post on GBAtemp, i was trying to prove/disprove a theory (that I originally i saw in YouTube) which says that the Sony PlayStation 1 (PS1/PSX/PSone) Driver 2 (USA) (Disc 1) (v1.1) actually works on WiiSX RX if you use a modificated BIN using the tool UltraISO (because maybe of its copy-protection designed by Infogrames?) for remove (delete) the FMV (full-motion video) scenes causing the game to crash when played on WiiSXRX.
But, before trying to do that, i saw that an user called larger0o made a patch for the Disc 2 of Driver 2 (PlayStation) which allows to use and start/play the game using the Disc 2 of the game but without requiring the Disc 1 anymore. That also will allow us to play the entire game by just only using one disc, with the only small problem of have missing the FMV videos/scenes of the first two cities. In case you're interested: https://github.com/larger0o/Driver2_patcher
Okay, so i downloaded the patcher for use the Disc 2 of Driver 2 (v1.1) (NTSC-U), tested on PCSX-Reloaded (PCSXR) and it worked. Now the remaining step is deleting (removing) the FMV scenes.
I was able to pick up UltraISO Portable, and i decided to compare what is the difference on internal files between the original ISO/BIN file of my patched Disc 2 of Driver 2 NTSC-U (v1.1) and the ISO/BIN image i got from the video on YouTube of Driver 2 (PAL) for WiiSX (which is also patched for boot from Disc 2). So i saw they are similar, except that some files of the "made for WiiSX" ISO have missing the STR and SBN files from these folders on the folder PSCD:/DRIVER2/FMV/
According to the info i got from the Driver 2 (PAL) ISO that was modified for use on WiiSX emulator, i removed (deleted) the FMV scenes (all the .STR and .SBN files) from all these folders (/FMV/0/, /FMV/1/, /FMV/2/, /FMV/9/) in my patched Driver 2 (v1.1) (NTSC-U) ISO for make a WiiSX-compatible version of Driver 2 (NTSC-U) (v1.1) without the FMV scenes causing the emulator to crash when trying to play these.
Then i saved the changes made to the new ISO/BIN image with the "Save" option from UltraISO.
So, i tested the patched & modified Driver 2 (NTSC-U) (v1.1) without FMV scenes on WiiSX-RX v2.5 and surprisinly it worked!
Some screenshots taken on Dolphin:
Some more info about Driver 2 (NTSC-U) (v1.1) (Patched for boot from Disc 2) on WiiSX-RX: The framerate is 32-56 FPS without Frameskip on. Set Franeskip to ON for the best result. Good Audio. Playable.
What do you think about my test of play Driver 2 (PS1) with no crashing FMV scenes on WiiSX RX? Let me know in the comments!
