Windows Security icon missing from the System Tray (Notification Tray)

The program runs in the background, but it just doesn't show in the System Tray. I guess CCleaner must have affected the system somehow and I've stopped using it, and the likes. And yes, I've tried most fixes on the web although none have corrected it.

While it's just a minor nitpick that doesn't bother me, I could reset the system and reinstall the programs as new/fresh to fix this error.

By the way, I thought it was pronounced C-C-Cleaner when in actuality there's just two C's so it's C-Cleaner.

there's an option when you right click the taskbar to tell the system which apps to display. check there. iirc, there's two places where it lists like default. common apps, then other less-common apps.

btw, do not use ccleaner or any registry editor. they're liable to fuck your pc up. just do everything manually, don't open emails when you're not familiar with the sender, stay away from downloading questionable executables, etc. I've managed to fix every windows 10 issue but one, which seems to be a windows bug or so I've heard.

Something similar happened to my PC just recently after applying a MS concurrent Windows 10 21H2 update.

The icons on the taskbar (from the right) disappeared out of nowhere and not even restarting Explorer.exe solved the issue.

But so far I've managed to fix it. What you need to do -or try, if the issue is the same as in my case-, is to delete the IconCache.db file from your <username>/AppData/Local/ folder and Windows will rebuild it. There's no need to restart Windows.

BTW, I use CCleaner on a monthly basis mainly to clean the Windows cache, that can grow with so many useless files for the end user, also do a Windows Registry cleanup, that helps improving windows functionality in therms of responsiveness. But that's just my opinion.

Reset (soft format) the system might be the best way to go about it. I've already made a list of the programs to then reinstall and backing up files are lightweight stuff.

the iconcache may be corrupted. do as the above user suggested. I'm not sure if you have to restart or not, but I would after deleting it.

I've had good luck with powershell commands fixing a lot of problems that can pop up so maybe give that one a shot first. Second option in the second link.

I got tired of WS not showing, and those blue squares just being there "uneditable," so I ended up resetting the system. It took a few hours, but the updates and activation were already all done so at least I didn't have to bother with that again.

No C-Cleaner for me this time. Old habits of Windows XP, I guess.

Please try:

In the TASKMANAGER select the AUTOSTART Tab please.
Check if:

- Windows Security Notification Icon
is Activated or Deactivated.

By the time I read your comment I was already done reinstalling 10 and I'm glad I did because it really felt broken in ways.

Still, I did try that and it was one of the first things I did (it was missing).

All works as it should and I'm happy. No more CCleaner and the likes.
