Maybe it's time to change how free speech is interpreted then. Hate crimes are hate crimes, whether it's hate speech or actions against a person of a minority or those of a different religion. People who spread hate speech and fear mongering remind me of the bullies in elementary school. They aren't so tough individually, but when they get with their friends they all act tough to show off, otherwise they are just as much pansies as everyone else. I always had a good way of dealing with bullies when I was a kid, get them on their own and beat them up. Verbal harassment is still verbal harassment no matter how it's done, individually or in a group.

Hating a group of people by the color of their skin or sexual orientation is despicable, but if we start defining what sort of opinions are legal and illegal... where does it end? Is that a precedent we really want to establish?

I get your anger and frustration here, I really do, but this is just the reality that comes with freedom of speech. When everyone is free to speak their mind, not everything you hear is going to be pleasant. Still, that's a price well worth paying. I don't think we should begin trading that freedom for security from hurt feelings.

Besides, we already have ways to take action against harassment (verbal or otherwise) in place, so...

Also, someone should remind the Westboro folks that inbreeding is against the Bible. The only people stupid enough to support that church are all of the same family members, since it's pretty much a family church. They just try and make as much noise as possible, but then everyone laughs at them because they are retarded. Stupid inbred hicks are still stupid inbred hicks. Maybe someone needs to bomb their church to send a message that their behavior is unacceptable, I wonder if the FBI can set that up much like so many people think they setup the Boston Marathon bombing.

This is one of the biggest misunderstandings. These guys aren't dumb - far from it. It's a family of lawyers purposefully provoking people so they can go to court and receive huge financial compensations - And earning easy publicity along the way. They know exactly what they are doing, and they have become very efficient at it. It's a marvelous system, really, the complete and total moral bankruptcy notwithstanding.

Deal with them the same way you would deal with a forum troll. Don't give them the attention they crave. If you get angry or upset over them, they're winning. They aren't even worth thinking about.

Wait wait wait waaaaait...
What if the WBC is a conspiracy made by the government to ban free speech? Just think about it...

Who cares what these inbred fuckholes think? If there is one group I can't tolerate more then NRA gun loving idiots, it's the Westboro Baptist Church.
Really? The NRA is second after these hate mongers? I mean, really?!?

This is a prime example of why people hate religion.
They are trying to reinforce the principles of their religion yet they are just pushing everyone away from it.
Their stupidity just makes you want to turn into a pot smoking 14 year old girl that listens to justin bieber.

Still, folks who hate religion are forgetting that a great deal of religious chums are actually quite unassuming. A single group of gross, icky extremists certainly doesn't reflect all religious people. :P

Goodness, having those sorts of urges is certainly a cause for concern! :P

Castiel needs to have a word with them. =3
You called?
The irony is, I am a Christian who would love to point out all of the flaws in what the WBC are doing, however I'm sure they know the flaws and are just trying to get money and publicity just like Gahars said.
They really aren't.
The truth of the matter is, if you believe it to be contradictory, you haven't studied it enough.
After this comment, I vote ProtoKun7 Supervisor 2013

Pretty sure these guys are just bullies who hide behind a religious organization to grant them further protection of free speech. There should be a cult clause or something to prevent this.

Now imagine what would happen if you put a gay guy and someone from Westboro church in the same spaceship to Mars! Fricking fireworks would happen! It will be the most watched event since the Moon landing.

Fireworks and a space vehicle do not go well together. People realised that in 1986.
