Gaming Trophies and Achievements!

I like how ssf4 on the 3ds handles them, you have medals, titles, and icons that are unlocked and you get that cool red text at the bottom everytime you accomplish one similar to trophies on the ps3 i guess. Now they just need to do that on a system level instead of game based.

DoA is doing the same exact thing, last time I read. They were suppose to be trade able between the two different games....Unless Reggie lied.

i would love some achievement...thats what i believe the ds missed out on, thats y ds games for me are difficult to keep interest because theres nothing to work towards
Seriously? I'm having a hard time thinking of a game that doesn't have "anything to work towards".

For those who want a way to compare achievements I think the answer is obvious, in game lists with your friends. One thing I disliked about the Xbox achievements system during my short time with Live was how all games are combined, a "he who has the most toys win" mindset. Yes, I could totally trash you for overall achievements per game done, but because you have a million odd games you have a massive Gamerscore. A game developer that decides to use achievements could use a personal list in game pulling data from your friends games to show data for just that game, much easier to do now that there is the universal FC. That way you see just the 5 achievements they have done in that one game as opposed to over all their games.

That seems like the best answer to me. Nintendo doesn't want to add them so it's up to the developers to add them if they want them.

^That can be managed from an overall list, though. With XBL, you can compare games side by side - so if you wanted to compare who had more trophies in Halo, you could do so.

I wouldn't mind having them. I like that SSFIV3DE has them - it gives me something to work towards after I finished up Arcade stories, which didn't take very long. They give completionists stuff to do, especially in fighting games where all there is to do is fight. I think it'd be cool if Nintendo developed a system that would let developers implement their achievements and such into the Friend's System, so that we can actually view what our friends have, without needing to have the same games. You know - I'd go to my friends list, click my friends name, and it'll show a list of games they've played, and it'll tell me what achievements they've reached in titles that support them. There doesn't need to be a point value associated with them, either.

I dont really like the idea of some trophy or line of text saying you did X and so now you have nothing more reward then lines of text. If they rewared you with play coins or in-game features (new weapon/new mode/new skin/new X) then I would be on board but I think its just a waste of time and space other wise.

Achievements would be nice. I own a PS3 and Wii and I love the trophies aspect of the ps3 cuz their kinda "collectables." Plus seeing the total amount of trophies u have is cool cuz of the level system on psn. Nintendo prolly wont ever have em but it be cool if we could show our trophie collection or whatever to other people.

Trophies/Achievements are good for gaming...I remember back in the day when most games were really challenging and people claimed they beat the final boss or got a secret item, but could never repeat the feat to prove it. Trophies/Achievements can be used as bragging rights to show friends that you really did accomplish something in a game. I find most online multiplayer trophies kind of pointless though. I've seen so many games where they award you for doing things like play in 1 online match or something stupid like that.

I have to say it's perfect as SSFIV has it, game based.

Yes, it is indeed in SSF4 3D Edition, and I would like the idea to have something similar in other games, I'm kinda proud when I see some new things unlocked.

Well there's been Wii and DS games with achievement systems but they really don't interest me nearly as much as a universal achievement system like Xbox Live or PSN. Having all your achievements across all your games show up easily kinda gives you some sort of bragging rights.

No, please no trophies. That's just despicable e-penis enlargement to the point that loads of people come to PSN Store update comments when there's a super awesome PSone Classic release and say "what no trophies? I'm not buying this!" ... I bet those dimwits wouldn't buy from the eStore if the games wouldn't get some kind of achievement system, so basicly once there is the possibility of trophies it's more work for devs for absolutely no gain other than showing off your cybercock.

I don't show off my trophies and achievements. When I earn them, I get a feeling of self satisfaction. They also give you a reason to play a game after you finish the main storyline.

Achievements are a great reason past the point of the main story line. And there fun to achieve, you also get a feeling of satisfaction when you hit 100%.

That wouldn't need an achievement system implemented by Nintendo to be visible to others (="like Sony's Trophies or Microsoft's Achievements") though. That's something that can be programmed into the games individually. For example, Borderlands does have Xbox Achievements/PS3 Trophies, but it also has its own achievement system that rewards you with some XP when you reach them.
For a system-wide implementation I can understand the reasoning for Microsoft and Sony to implement them (MS had them first which was something the same game on PS3 didn't have to offer and then Sony had to follow) but on a system with its own unique games it seriously feels like it would do more harm than good.

And don't get me wrong, I have nothing against trophies by themselves, I have a few platinum trophies and decent PSN level myself, but the people who only care about the numbers and complain when there's no trophies or something just ruin the whole idea.
