I'll have to vote for the Atari 5200, mostly because it's the only one of the systems above that was a real disappointment. The 2600 was loved by many and people had high hopes for the 5200 - hopes that were shattered. While it's definitely a step-up hardware-wise, it has too many flaws that just can't be overlooked. It's absolutely massive, the number of games is scarce and the controller, albeit nicely designed for the era, is so infamously prone to failure that it reached legendary status. People invested pretty penny into their 2600's and collections of games and although I always say that backwards compatibility doesn't make or break a system, it certainly helps push systems in the initial transition phase. Neither gamers nor the developers really jumped on the 5200 ship and what users ended up with was a machine with broken controllers and only 69 games available in comparison to the 2600's 250+, god knows how many are there since the lists I've seen differ greatly. Some that include Sears's 2600 go up to 500+ titles! To summarize, it's a system that can only be recommended to really hardcore collectors. Anyone will tell you that it's far better to invest in a 2600 or one of the Visions, seeing that they have 2600 game compatibility adapters: CollecoVision Atari Converter and the Intellivision System Changer. If not for the disappointment value, I'd probably vote Fairchild Channel F (even though I find it quite pretty and the controller is fascinating more than anything... but 250 000 units sold is pretty underwhelming) or the Oddyssey^2 (but that was a huge step-up from the original Oddyssey, it was more-or-less well-designed with the keyboard separate on the main unit and only failed on the market due to 2600's massive popularity... plus it sold 2 million units, more or less - that's twice as much as the 5200 and a respectable result cat the time!)... but I can't just dismiss a let-down like that, not when it's such a step down from the highly successful 2600. I feel like school, back when I was actually in school, was more entertaining though, because of how much I get to interact with people, hang out with friends, and other stuff like that. All I get to talk to at work is my boring coworkers lol
