OP says he packed the Switch roughly, not sure who would think that you are alright doing that with such a compact electronic.
TBH, when I travel I usually put my switch in my Hori hardcase, that's sturdy.
But on the everyday commute I just slip it in the iPad pocket of my laptop bag without any protective case. The case is too much of a hassle for taking the Switch out quickly.
Still not broken.

I wonder if the same will be said about joycons 30 years from now?
Not a chance.
Wash a NES controller and a joycon together in a washing machine, and check which one still works afterwards. No need to wait 30 years.

Ohhhh, I missed the “rough packing” (snicker) part. Yeah, gotta be somewhat careful. I use hard shell cases, and if need be, a little metal strongbox with a soft lining.

Still in all, though, I bet the build quality has dipped in recent years, at least somewhat. I mean, we put those old NES controllers through *HELL*, and many of ‘em still work perfectly. I wonder if the same will be said about joycons 30 years from now?
Joycon have smaller parts. The part that will be most prone to breaking is the joystick, which the nes doesn't have. The other potential fault in the future is having a battery, which over time will fail unlike the nes which doesn't have one

The joycon would likely break. Why? Its got a battery and is technically always powered. It's not a build quality issue, it's a difference in the technologies between the two. Build quality hasn't really gone down, and if anything I would say it has improved due to better plastic technology. But current tech breaks down quicker due to the electronics being much smaller and most things using rechargeable batteries.

I found the analog stick replacements on Ebay easy with a quick search.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/3D-Analog-...948596?hash=item33df7e9b74:g:amMAAOSwndZaWHpe

You're looking at around 30 bucks for each stick, coming from china with a wait time of about two to four weeks.
Ouch. That's a lot for an analog stick, especially a used one. Since I'm in Australia the price goes up a bit.
That is really expansive. Aliexpress has them for a lot less!
Could you link me? I checked and could only find Switch Pro Controller analog sticks. Not sure if they ship to Australia either.
Always travel with a proper carrying case for your Switch when you bring it somewhere, and not a flimsy one either, one that wont crush the Switch if weight is applied to it.
My case gave me a false sense of security. It was too flimsy.

It's in his posts. Just check the first page.

When I click on the link Firefox does nothing. When I right click the link, left click "copy link location" then ctrl+v it into the address bar I get a message saying the search is too long.

What the... That's pretty expensive, usually PS3\X360 analogic replacement cost like 2 EUR or less, I bought a few for the Xbox 360, but the quality is also lower compared to the original :(

Can I take the working analog stick out of the left joycon and install it into the right joycon? If that works I'll buy a Hori left joycon when it's released in the west.

Just pick one up from AliExpress. Hori might not be using the same connection to the joystick as the standard controller. You can find replacements on AliExpress for cheaper anyway

*** Puts hand on table, smashes hand with hammer, complains that hand hurts ***

That pretty much summarizes this thread.

I should have explained myself more clearly. I will take the analog stick out of my Nintendo left joycon and install it into the right joycon. Will this work?

This leaves me with a broken left joycon. I'll then replace my broken left joycon with the Hori joycon.
