So I installed Retroarch to play GBA games yesterday. Installation went great, I started playing Castlevania: Circle of The Moon. I played for several hours without quitting Retroarch.

When finally stopped playing, I saved and I closed Retroarch by swiping the app, like any Vita games.

Today I boot up Retroarch and Castlevania: CotM again, and the game doesn't have any saves? What?

I Googled and found out that Retroarch should save the game in: ux0/data/retroarch/savefiles/

My save file is there, but it is not the most current one, it is dated several hours before I stopped playing.

Regardless, what can cause Retroarch to not load a save file even though the file is clearly in the directory? Am I doing something wrong?

Dammit, just tested another game, Metal Slug Advance. So I can't just quit a game by swiping Retroarch close, the save file won't be saved, even though a save file is actually created. I have to go to the retroarch menu and click "close content" first to close the game and then I can swipe Retroarch close.

Can anybody confirm this? I have to close a game from the Retroarch menu "close content" on order to write a save file?

The thing about Retroarch is, that you can't just close Retroarch after you save a game. You have first to close the core, so it saves physicaly.

Yep, learnt that the hard way... And it had to happen with a Metroidvania game with randomized item drops. That lost playthrough, I had better items. Oh well.

Can't you just pick "quit" from retroarch's menu? That should also save everything and automatically exit the program. Swiping to close seems not recommended.
