A-Text and A-Map are for the 3rd generation. check Pokecommununity and Whack-A-Hack for tools and tutorials.

Oh. I was under the impression it was for all Pokemon games.

Whack a Hack isn't loading for me and Pokecommunity has so much content that it is confusing me...

Just go to the emulation section, you'll find everything you need there.

I'm still so confused. I can't find any tools at all that are for Pokemon Gold!

JohtoMap - A Semi-Recent Mapping Tool That Was Dropped, But Is Still Pretty Good.
A whole bunch of other tools.

It's not as easy as hacking the third generation as there are tons more tools for it, and the 3rd generation has better Mapping, Scripting, and Spriting tools. For the most part the 2nd generation is done in hex.

...Wow, just using PKSV wears me out. I can't figure out how anything is done!

. It's the hardest part of hacking, and I'm specifically a scripter (cause I suck at mapping and spriting), but I can't help you out because I use XSE.

Also, it's odd that WAH's not working for you, it's working just fine for me :unsure...what browser are you using?

I'm using Firefox. I know WAH's worked for me before, as I've downloaded at least one hack from that site.

Well try again later, the toolbox for that site is pretty big and will really help you out.
