PayPal is no longer supported on Steam in certain regions

PayPal, once a popular payment method for buying games on Steam, is no longer usable for those in certain countries. Some users had noted that PayPal was not showing up as a payment method on the storefront, with a small message from Valve explaining as to why:

In early July 2025, PayPal notified Valve that their acquiring bank for payment transactions in certain currencies was immediately terminating the processing of any transactions related to Steam. This affects Steam purchases using PayPal in currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD, and USD. We hope to offer PayPal as an option for these currencies in the future but the timeline is uncertain. We are also evaluating additional payment methods on Steam for the customers affected by this. In the meantime, please use one of our other current payment methods during checkout. If you can't use any of the available options, you can consider using a Steam Wallet code to add funds to your account.

There is no official reason given by Valve as to why this change has occurred. Speculation points towards the recent wave of adult games that have been delisted off of Steam's platform, but for now, there is no correlation between the two incidents.

Think about what you're saying. If individuals aren't allowed to make their own assessments/judgments of others, then that in itself is an extreme form of censorship; you're accusing people of wrongthink. Society's collective initial judgments of people aren't always fair, but it's practically an impossible task to make everybody hate you. After all, the people we're talking about in these examples built their entire personalities and careers around their image as pariahs. Being a piece of shit can be very lucrative if you just put all your effort toward appealing to other pieces of shit.
Absolutely, people can make their own judgements. I never said they can't or shouldn't. My only point is that prohibiting someone from speaking because of the content of their speech is censorship. As I said, censorship can absolutely be justified in some circumstances. As far as legal protections go, you're only protected from government censorship of protected speech. As far as free speech principles go, the context determines how relevant they are. Even the most ardent defenders of free speech are unlikely to object should you eject a guest from your house for insulting your spouse. Don't deny when you (not you personally) engage in censorship, explain why the censorship is necessary or desirable so that others may weigh the strength of your reasoning.

"He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still."

This is why I have no interest in becoming a world leader: no matter how hard I try, it would end in disaster. It is enough that I follow God; my Kingdom is not of this world.

No you don't. You can make a claim and credit card companies can refund you, I've done this myself too. However the credit card company can technically refuse the charge back, as section 75 applies to goods paid for directly with your card, not via a 3 party vendor or any or relationship

I cancelled PayPal back in 2023 because they tried sneaking in a policy that would fine users $2,500 for “misinformation” at their own discretion. People closed their accounts, even their former president and Elon Musk called them out on it, then they tried to backpedal saying it was “an error.” Yeah right.

That was in there since 2013. People went 10 years of not giving a shit until they saw it on someones Tweet. Then all of a sudden peoples panties in a bunch. When have you ever heard of Paypal fining anyone $2500 for "misinformation"? Yeah, never. Overblown bs. And Elon called them out on it? As if that piece of shit has a moral ground to stand on.

Pretty sure this is continued fallout from the "brand reputation" bullshit that started not long ago.

How did one no-name organization of winos from Australia cause a global crisis like this? This isn't how that's supposed to go...

I want to get off of this timeline. Its not fun anymore.

Who even uses the PayPal anyway...

Its the most common buyer payment option by a wide margin on Ebay (likely because its at least partially owned by Ebay, or the other way around, idk anymore), and their payment protections are fairly solid.
