I'm torn to be honest. VR is disappointing...as it stands now. The experiences are shallow, short, and unimpressive for the most part. The hardware is lacking, and it pushes current rendering hardware to its limits, so that puts a damper on what can be done by normal means. Obviously, you can put down some coding and rendering trickery to push out the last bit of impressive visuals you can, but it still falls short. And that's even before you get into latency issues of current high resolution displays that would make VR seamless. The VR egg hatched prematurely in the 90s and died. It hatched again a few years ago, and it's on life support. I really hope that we're close enough to where VR hardware can and will be made at a lower cost than it is now. I compare the current VR environment to what Android started out as. It was garbage. Nearly everything it could do, iOS could do better. And iOS was still garbage. Nearly featureless, and its greatest claim to fame was that it was entirely customizable. It didn't even launch with Android Market. And when it did, there was absolutely nothing worth buying or downloading for a long time. But now, holy shit. Android has grown and matured by leaps and bounds. You can buy a mid-grade phone and have absolutely no stutters or slowdowns with the OS. When even a few years ago, you had to buy a top of the line phone to get everything to be snappy and lag free. And it wasn't even guaranteed then. As hardware matures, so will VR. It's still in its infancy. It has legs, and can walk, but expecting a full out run at this stage is asking too much. But we'll get there, and I do believe it will be the future of gaming. At the very least in parallel with traditional gaming.
