It seems that someone found some codes regarding a possible support to virtual reality within the Nintendo Switch.

The important discovery was made by a Twitter user, by using reverse engineering, has discovered a particular line of code, which reads the writing "Test VR mode" . After further exploring this part of the firmware, he detected a second hidden sentence "Please move the console away from your face and click the close button!" .

This information leaves no doubt whatsoever: apparently Nintendo's hybrid console would contain bits of code that have to do with VR. This news will surely delight all Nintendo fans of virtual reality, who will now have further hope in a future support for this technology, which the Kyoto house itself said interested in exploring .

At the moment there have not been any clarifications from Nintendo, so at the moment it is not known whether this is an indication for a future compatibility with VR or simple residual programming. Only time will tell us.

Pretty sure we already found something like this already. Also, who found this and where did they announce it.
There is no source in the source :/

We literally knew this BEFORE we even knew about the Switch.
It was leaked along with the detachable controllers before the switch was revealed.

These match it, but known since August 8th. That article was written today.
So much for "a few hours ago".

Yeah probably that's the one that they referred to. Looks promising, and well you know news websites always try to say they are the first to write about something which explains (few hours ago).

"Nintendo, like any company, registers a lot of patents, many of which never get used but it seems very likely that this one and the Switch files found this month relate to the same early experiments. It may even be something Nintendo will return to in the future, but most would consider the Switch too under-powered to run convincing or meaningful VR – especially given how the PlayStation VR has come down in price recently and the advent of alternatives like Oculus Go."

I don't know why the media assumes that the company that gave us the Virtual Boy would insist on either doing VR "right" or not at all.

They can just throw out a labo kit as a novelty that is barely above google cardboard and be under no obligation to try and make it a major software platform like everyone else is failing to do. You would never buy a Switch for that kind of VR, but it's not that hard a sell for Switch owners.
