I found out yesterday that Super Mario World was originally made for the NES and it's playable....

Was it made by Tengen who I believe made a NES clone that came out in the 80's?
I recall there were shops in Holland selling fake NES's and Tengen rings a bell

Nope. Tengen was owned by Atari, they did make a bunch of unlicensed games for the NES though.

Edit: LOL - the music sounds like a cheap knockoff of Super Mario Land's soundtrack

Super Mario World NES

To me this SMW is not fun at all. I highly recommend Mario Adventure, a wonderful hack of SMB3 that is undeniably a brand new game... weather patterns, shops, etc. Romhack of the decade if you ask me.

I encourage you to check out more unlicensed / hacked games for the NES. There are a handful that I really enjoy.

There have been a few official ones:

MC Kids: McDonalds - NES
McDonald Land - many console, but I enjoyed it on the Amiga 500
and the best one:
Mick & Mac Global Gladiators which was also on many consoles & was by the excellent Virgin Games who also did Lion King, Aladdin (Amiga/Mega Drive), Jungle Book & many 16 bit classic.

Don't forget the Super Mario World 64 bootleg for the MegaDrive. I've not actually tried this one myself.
