Hey guys, so I tested my XAJ400476 Switch and it is thankfully unpatched. Firmware 4.0.1
I am completely new to the Switch hacking scene, I have tried to use these forums to search for stuff but there is just so much information and I have no idea which to go for.
All I want to do with my switch is turn it on and play downloaded games. I would imagine I need CFW. I used a piece of tinfoil to put my switch in RCM mode but I don't really want to have to keep doing that every time I start it up, is there any sort of purchase to automatically be in RCM Mode or something?
So I guess the questions I need answered are:

What CFW is best for just playing downloaded games? - Could you possibly link a tutorial to it
Is there anyway to automatically start in RCM Mode without a Jig? I would be willing to buy something
I am guessing I should back up my Nand? Not sure if this is a feature with the switch, last Nintendo product I hacked was a 3DS, if so how do I do it?
I want to play as close to the latest games as possible such as Pokemon Lets Go etc, I seen there was a way to get an EmuNand so I can update and play it, is that true? If so, possible to send a link?

I know I know, I must seem like an idiot, I wouldn't blame anyone for flying off the handle and telling me to go away, but I really have tried to search the GBATemp fourms but it just seems all over the place in the switch section, I have used it for Vita, 3ds, Ps2, Xbox 360, Psp and Wii hacking and never found it as hard to find information as I have with the switch section

Before you do anything, you should definitely make a NAND backup. Use this tool - https://gbatemp.net/threads/rcm-payload-hekate-ctcaer-mod.502604/. Make a full eMMC and Boot0/1 backup and save it somewhere. Now, you have multiple options for a CFW. SX OS is paid, has direct XCI (Switch game file) loading so games don't have to be installed, emuNAND support, but has alleged stolen and brick code, and it doesn't support the latest 6.2 update. ReiNX is free but games have to be installed, so they can't be directly loaded, and also doesn't work on 6.2. Atmosphere is similar but has error report blocking (lower ban risk) and supports the latest 6.2, so right now I would recommend it. Jigs and dongles are always required, but aren't needed as long as your switch isn't powered off. Nevertheless, I would recommend a dongle, which is a portable RCM payload device, can be found for $10. For general payload sending, you should use TegraRCMGUI on Windows, not required if you buy a dongle. Use that program to send payloads to your switch, you'll still need a jig/paperclip/tinfoil. The only guide you should need is https://www.sdsetup.com/, It'll allow you to pick what you want, then extract to your SD, and you should be ready.

  1. Download Kosmos (latest is v11.5)
  2. Use Hekate in the Kosmos package to make a NAND backup
  3. Run CFW from Hekate
  4. Install your downloaded NSP games using Tinfoil (included with Kosmos)

Thanks very much guys, very easy to understand, ill look into it more now that I know what I am actually looking for
