Hey there! I have searched, but have been unable to find a way to play BIS on an r4 original, without YSmenu. Is there any way to do it?

You used the search. BUT you didn't click and read the posts... It had already been stated that it won't work on the original R4.
One of the big reasons was that R4 is old now, you don't get updates or anything anymore.

Next time please read posts from others.... (like actually CLICK IT and READ inside)

Just use YSMenu...

It's relatively simplistic to set up, just use one of the two tools:
a2h's YSMenu Generator and update the DSTT.7z in the ysmenu folder of the app.
or R4YSAuto updated by Depravo

I hated it for a while myself because of the way it looked.. and themes didn't work right -- things were slightly off and I couldn't figure out how to get the colors to change properly.
Then I found this for colors: http://www.conradshome.com/html2bgr15/
And made a skin template in BMP and PSD formats.
