Hacking Linux kernel Mike p7?

Hey guys, I'm trying to get Linux to work on my Wii. Currently, it's installed but saying "kernel panic" when I try to load it. Do I have to get the kernel? And where do i put it?
I've seen someone working on kernel version 3.10, but it was on github. How do I download and use that kernel?

How do I get the github kernel? It should be a .elf right?
Sorry, I'm a noob when it comes to coding.
And I can't get my wifi to work on that distro, is there a way I can replace the .img with any other distro?
