in my opinion the 3ds demo may have been real but the screenshots on nintendo's site feature no jaggies, and an amazing light system, im just not sure this is possible tbh, since every other game has had jaggies to some extent with the exception of resident evil, plus the screens are clearly from cutscenes, and so could be pre-rendered.

I haven't seen any videos of the game in action, and it doesn't seem like anyone filmed it, so can anyone who was at E3 confirm what they saw in the demo. does it match the screens

I bet without any doubt those screens were rendered on a devkit with higher quality graphics, like the psp god of war screen-shots.
This demo has jaggies, you just have to look harder due to the lighting doing a good job of hiding them. You can also see the polygons of the characters too. As good as it looks, it doesn't look as good as RE5, and if it was prerendered video, it wouldn't have any visible polygons or jaggies. You can tell this is using the real graphics of the system. It's not like it looks TOO good for the system.

Take a look at the dude's backpack for the jaggies-

And his arms for the polygons-

There's been confirmation by news sources that it looks the same ingame. The reason you think it looks so flawless is due to the lighting. It hides a lot of the jaggies and polygons. You can see them if you closely though. And as said too many times already, you can adjust the camera during the demo, proof that it isn't a video.

i see polygons but i don't see jaggies, those screens definitely have anti-aliasing, infact i can't see any aliasing at all.

look at the screens of nintendogs and then these and you will see what I'm talking about even mgs3ds has aliasing

also i wasn't really referring to the E3 demo as much as the screens on Nintendo's website

wait so resident evil and metal gear solid are not even going to be playable games
wow that is total bullsh*t
these games would have been amazing

As i said, i can see some jaggies on the screen. They're well covered due to the lighting effects, but i can see them in some places.

You also have to realize the wide array of difference in graphics for all the 3DS screens. Some look like Dreamcast quality, while others look like PS2, and even others look Wii or better. I'd say Nintendogs or Zelda look the most low tech. A step up would be Mario Kart, which looks similar to something seen on PS2 or Gamecube. Then you've got Kid Icarus or MGS, which appears like something you'd see on Wii or better (which i'd say better). And then there's Resident Evil, which looks better. But still, i see nothing that looks like it was rendered via video or as high as PS3 or whatever.

I can see some flaws in the pic. I just think it's the lighting that helps cover some of the flaws up. In certain lighted parts of RE3DS, you can see jaggies. The varied lighting isn't seen in other 3DS screens we've seen, which is why you see more flaws with them. Had MGS been lighted in a similar way, i think it would have been harder to see jaggies.

I think what a lot of people forget is tech demos aren't usually restrained in having a game fully running. Check out the Peach's Castle tech demo on the GameCube for an example. Hell, even the original PlayStation had a rendered dino tech demo which looked damn good and high-detail, far better than any actual game had. Because everything could be concentrated on the single aspect being demoed :/

I've never personally seen a tech demo which ended up looking better than the actual game to be honest. The final game almost always ends up looking better. And now that we know the 3DS' graphics processor, it seems perfectly feasible that it could push the level of detail seen in RE3DS.

your gonna have to prove that, show me one resident evil screenshot with aliasing, and circle the aliasing in the picture

the only RE picture with any jaggies is this one

and thats only because of the screen resolution, even it has at least 2x AA, ive never seen a light filter that can remove aliasing, only soften it

3DS clearly has some new antialiasing features, as confirmed by the gpu maker. I still managed to find some jaggies though, and marked them the best i could-

They did a good job hiding them to their credit. Had i not been arguing that this was being rendered real time and been asked to look, i'd likely not have noticed. 3DS has antialiasing hardware, now confirmed, and it seems to do its job well!

Even more, I don't think you will actually notice those jagged lines when playing the finished game (that is, if they are even there still) because a game always looks better in motion. Also, you will probably pay a lot more attention to the 3D effect than you will pay attention to the anti-aliasing.

True, I've been looking at all the cross eye 3d pictures and some of them are truly amazing and even though psp games are covered in aliasing it is rarely distracting.

Granville you clearly looked hard at those screen-shots to find any aliasing, although the only thing that really shows any aliasing is the railing on the boat.

I reckon were probably both right though, there is definitely a lot of AA going into those screens, but at the same time if the 3ds really is that powerful then thats awesome because AA is very expensive especially on a portable, i hope you are right and all the future games look this amazing i guess well see for sure once it's released which wont be for another year

I didn't have to look very hard to find them, but i wouldn't have noticed them had we not entered this discussion about jaggies. Once i started looking for them, it wasn't too hard to find them. I think a lot depends on the lighting and the distance an object is from the screen. You'll notice a lot of bright and dark lighting in the shots with the characters in rooms. The lighting in the boat pic however is rather constant overall without any variation. Plus the boat is being rendered from afar, unlike the closeups with the characters.

Really though, now that we know how powerful the GPU is for the 3DS, this should come as no surprise that the system would be capable of such good looking games. We know it has antialiasing too, so that should show you why there are so few jaggies in games like Resident Evil and Kingdom Hearts. I think a lot has to do with developers though. On one hand, you've got a super realistic game like RE which you'd be hard pressed to find much flaw in. Then you've got the Zelda remake, which while we love it and it looks far better than the N64 game, looks a lot worse than the other 3D games.

At any rate, there's a good chance the games that don't seem to use the full potential of the 3DS will end up looking a lot better when done. Early development.

@RockmanForte-

REDS was just a rather simple port of the first RE game from PS1. They used the same graphics, areas, and even cheesy voice actors. This game though doesn't look like ANY Resident Evil game, it looks new and original.

I know but they still should made for REDS series no matter what.

For this game is so different I know but will they make series ? I hope so. I love horror games.

From this video, we can gather a few things up the upcoming game!
First, it seems to be set on a cruise ship of some kind, obviously.
The interior seems to have inspiration from the Mansion of the first game.
It will capsize, as shown by Jill holding onto a ledge with fire below, in an inverted corridor, (much like The The Poseidon Adventure, with corridors becoming pits of death).
It features HUNK, who we haven't seen since The Darkside Chronicles, or, story wise, since Code Veronica.
It features classic zombies again, perhaps this is a prequel? Or the T-Virus is back again?

Any other observations?

“Following last week’s announcement that Capcom currently has two titles, Resident Evil: Revelations and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (tentative title), in development for the Nintendo 3DS the first trailer for Resident Evil: Revelations has just been released and is now available for download from our press extranet. Featuring appearances from Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine the trailer is rendered in real time using the game engine.”

So nope. it isn't a pre rendered video. Great news.
