Well I got pwned by a virus! Windows XP starts but does not start explorer.exe. If I start it manually it starts but then closes down. It delete all my system restore points. Piece of shit.

I'm typing in knoppix (linux live cd) right now, and I'm on 4.x which does not have NTFS write support... which means no erasing the virus from here. I could try a scan, but this doesn't have a virus scanner. And I don't know how to install software in Linux.

What do I do?

Find out how to install software on linux for a start?

And backup the files you'd like to keep in case you're gonna have to do a format.

Did you try to start windows in safe mode? (not sure if that is the term they use over there, but it's the literal translation of what it's called in dutch. Might be maintenance mode or something like that in english)

Okay, I'll try safe mode (somehow, I have a feeling that will not work, the virus is pretty smart erasing my restore points and all) then backup and reformat if that does not work.
