i´m not even really sure if hirameki still exists... they stopped publishing vn´s back then, were gone for some time, came back doing different stuff and now looks like they are gone again. the website is down and no trails left (kind of sad, even if the translation has quite a few mistakes and were done with a terrible deadline, they had a good taste for vn´s.. and they published them retail without any kickstarter :p)

Thanks for your reply Scorp. If the translation from Hirameki was commercially released, it would mean that the game would likely have to be re-translated, or the commercial translation would have to be used anyway, which might not seem like the best thing to do. I agree, it may be too much trouble when there are other options for playing games on a portable device.
Man, I read that, but I still did not get what is your point :) Why not take old PC translation and apply it to more recent version of same game (PC, IOS, Android)? Anyway, even apart that seems not too much people really interested.

Actually, you may be interested to hear that, not only am I currently translating Ever17 to both Finnish and English, but I'm re-coding the entire game. Basically porting it for PC, Mac, Linux, Android and XCode (for iOS, although that's kind of unnecessary...)
Anyway, even though I have most of the assets I'm still missing some sound files and I had to remake the video files. If you know a way of converting the .afs (sound) files from the PSP release (just some missing voices and sound effects), that would be really helpful.

Proof of concept, here is a link to a video I made of my progress. The text in this version is in Finnish, but the final version will also be in English and have a simple way of translating the game to other languages.

If you think I'm bluffing, let me know how I can prove it. :p

@Diapolo10 Why recode Ever17, while already exist versions for IOS and Android from Cyberfront, having almost same format as the PSP version have? PC version already exist too and works just fine in Wine. Moreover, there is VNDS which works just fine everywhere, which also have a port of Ever17...

Also you are not the first to start such a thing... These guys already almost finished that... https://github.com/dsp2003/e17p But they had more ambitious task - port all Infinity engine games, which is much better, rather just only Ever17, which already ported everywhere possible, even on NDS.

So, well... Dude, you're doing useless thing, as it is too limited. Switch to porting Never7/Remember11/etc., would be much more interesting. Also you will be first :) And I could help you with the data and script for them (as I still did not played none of them for various reasons). Maybe this will motivate me to finally finish R11.

Yes, sure, I know a way to take voices... Just why take PSP, when you can take Xbox360 which have much better sound quality? I believe I even saw a patch for that somewhere in the web for PC version.

@Diapolo10I believe I even saw a patch for that somewhere in the web for PC version.

Anyone have a link to this patch?
Also, sidenote your message seems pretty harsh. IMHO it makes sense to rewrite the game so it can be used on multiple platforms instead of translating each official release. And I understand there's a VNDS port of E17 but IMHO that version doesn't look too hot. And I may be misremembering but does VNDS even support video? I know there's a few video clips that play in E17 and I bet they're missing in the VNDS port.

EDIT: I just want to say that you're original plan to translate the PSP version is 1000000x times more useless than what this guy is doing so maybe you shouldn't be so harsh.

Did you ever tried to google for "Ever17 Voice SFX Patch"? First link in results will give you what you want...

This is PSP forum, no? Remakes and stuff like this is offtopic here, unless they are done for PSP. My original plan was to play on PSP, which I like much more. His plan does not include PSP at all. And who ever told that I am nice person? I am old and angry, deal with it.

Just FYI that patch for voices / sound effects uses PS2 audio but close enough. Thanks
They are same quality as on Xbox360 (as it is actually same sounds used, also reused in PSP/Android/IOS ports). BGM was from Xbox360 for sure, as it was re-arranged. Also if post was useful, you can put a Like for it. Why we are speaking about this here?

I got it, no point in creating PSP translation, unless I myself is insanely interested in it, as only me and 2 other guys would play. Yeah.

Trust me, I get your point.

Why would I recode an entire game instead of just translating one? There's multiple reasons, actually. I find it rather difficult to create patchers used to translate the dialogue, and I feel that there should be an option to allow literally anyone to write translations to their own language - and even make it possible to allow people to include their own voice acting if they want.

Second, this project is not 'just' a remake, but I'm planning to add new features. Sure, it's possible to just mod the original game(s) but I find that less convenient. Also, my project will be used for educational purposes (as an example of how one should make a VN).

Even then, before I even started it was obvious that this was not going to be a small task. However, it also gives me lots of experience in making my own VNs.

I don't really care if you think I'm a moron for taking the hard way, since I do understand your point of view. But what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. :p

You want it - you do it, no problem. Just as I told, I would be more happy, if you migrated something else on Renpy, like Never7 or Remember11, as they do not have currently any version, which could be run on native mobiles. As Ever17 was really migrated everywhere, and translated already at least in 3 different languages, so nothing prevents you to translate or change music/sound in original version - that's what the patches do, naturally.

Of course, I could do the others as well (although Remember11 is very difficult to replicate because of all the visual effects), but seriously I would need a whole team for that. Ever17 is a large title in itself, but I refuse to spend the next 5 years remaking the other titles all alone as well.

If there's a chance of me gathering a team to work on them, maybe. But even then, that might be too much. :p

Memories Off 2nd, Never7, Remember11, Ever17 and I think more of such stuff from Cyberfront use similar format (but not same! Container is same, but script format inside is different, means text opcodes).

not sure if related but since i saw memories off mentioned, figured i'll drop this here.

memories_test.png

this is from Memories Off Yubikiri no Kioku Futari no Fuuryuuan, and i really have no idea how related it is to what you're doing if at all,
but if you run into filetypes such as .klz (compressed tim2 images, TIM header visible) or generic headerless .bins with bytecode + script combos, i might have something to offer you regarding dissecting them.

though all in all, if your files as anything close to what this junk had, it's propably faster for you to make your own unpackers than try to make sense out of the mess i produced while doing the hack resulting in the above screenshot :P
