Hacking English Kernel on Chinese R4 DS?

Hi there,

since I am living in China for the next bunch of years and have access to R4 DS cards for about 10 Dollars,
my question now is:

Can I use the English Kernel on a Chinese R4 DS card?

If you find the older batches you can hard-mod it to an English compatible version. I highly doubt you can find an older version though. The newer PCBs don't allow you to choose language

if you have any soldering know-how, its still possible if you can somehow take off the black gunk the chip is covered in and then solder 2 contacts, which u need to look up

The black goop (Epoxy I think its called) you will never be able to get off. It's hard like rock and its more than stuck, its sort of fused with the PCB (if thats possible).
