Find someone who knows how to hex edit that particular game. Most games have different encryptions.

What I would do to start out is take many, many samples of save files with different amounts of money and compare the differences.
From there, you can determine if there is encryption, checksums, or what have you.

if you have gw it is mich easier to find cheats. but if no gw, then sure, sorry.
even using ntr may be simpler for you if you have it all set up

First, you'd need to understand the conversion between decimal and hexadecimal. Then, you can use a RAM dump to dump the save in memory. Afterwards, a simple search for the hexadecimal value of your gold will find you the possible locations of where the values are stored in memory. Then, you'd need to change the value of your gold in game, either by buying something or selling something or gaining it legitimately. Dump the RAM again and search for the new value in hexadecimal and do this as many times as you need to until you find the one or few locations that are consistent with storing the gold value. Then change the value and inject the edited memory dump and save the game.
