This technique is very basic I'll just be sharing some ready to go ingredients I use with minimal prep and how you can shape them using different prepackaged kits.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
$6
- Old El Paso Taco kit (Preferably)
$4
-- Generally comes with tortillas, seasoning and sauce ready to go
- Pico de gallo
$4
- Shredded Mexican blend cheese
$2
- Sour cream
$3
- Salad
$2
Total: $22
* Prices rounded to the dollar subject to change
Step 1: Brown ground beef; after browning drain grease
Step 2: Open taco kit grab the included spice mix, mix into the ground beef, add a small splash of water and incorporate seasoning with beef. The season will thicken after about five minutes. Turn heat off.
Step 3 "assembly": You can warm tortillas for about ten seconds in the microwave or skip this step all together. I like to make the tortillas into a bit of a U shape so they build easier.
Step 4: Add ground beef to tortilla, sprinkle shredded cheese, adding cheese first will help melt from the heat. Add pinch sized amount of toppings until happy or not too over filled. Add salad lettuce, Pico de gallo, and sour cream.
It's that easy, you can opt ingredients as always, the salad idea I got due to taco bell adding shredded cabbage which is just shredded cabbage they sell with lettuce anyway, the shredded carrots don't totally throw anything off either if anything adds a decent crunch. This is my lazy man's soft taco method and it always comes out good. When you cook at home for yourself you aren't expecting high quality you expect fullness. You can prep left overs and store in containers like I do here. This makes about 6-8 depending on filling methods. Usually 3 fill me up. Or just make taco salads with left overs perfectly fine.
