I've got to admit that this argument (you both bring, slightly different worded) actually the strongest argument I've heard thus far. Mobile games are usually designed to be played in short bursts with some time in between them, and more than the touchscreen is that something that is at odds with learning the commitment to the game you talk about. I could counter with some counterexamples (heartstone, for example), but on this field I can see your concerns. And for good reason. Let's see...I think extra credits mentioned something of an analogy with snacks vs a good meal. And it's true that in this analogy, mobile games resemble snacks first and foremost. It instantly gives you the pleasure you want of a game rather than what a game really should be about (which is a topic in itself, but here I'll go with "learning in a fun environment"). However, I still don't really believe that this fear is justified. I mean...my girlfriend continuously replays ticket to ride and rummikub on her phone on the same (easy?) setting, but her doing that doesn't diminish the chances of her later playing a game she has to actually learn to master first. Sorry, but that's simply not true. A few examples: -that bubble witch game is what my mother-in-law is "addicted" to (she doesn't spend a dime on it...only time). -when meeting my friends of youth (now also in their thirties), they told me they play heartstone nowadays. And while that game isn't as deep as magic: the gathering, there's still plenty of strategy and tactics to apply -and most of all: have you even looked at the herds of players playing pokemon go? I'd average them around twenty. In fact, I'm not sure if I even saw someone in the ten-twelve range even on the streets with their pokemon radar on. This isn't a 'winner takes all' industry. Nintendo hasn't budged when realistic grey/brown shooters were topping the billboards, so why should they budge now? Or to compare it to movies: I hate the mainstream blockbusters (overpowered superhero fights an even more overempowered enemy...things explode, the world has to be saved and there's a love interest involved), but even those grossing in most revenue doesn't mean that's what all the movies are going to look like.
