Hacking clone flashcarts can be updated?

I have a clone version of R4i sdhc dual core. I was wondering if anybody ever tried updating these clone flashcarts to work with the latest FW 8.1.0-19...
I was able to update this flashcart to work with Ver. 7 (not sure which one) and it worked flawlessly. I only recently discovered that my flashcart was a clone and was hesitant to update since then.

Are there advantages of upgrading my 3ds fw to ver 8 anyway???

Just E-shop access, the only different between 7.x and 8.x is they changed some of the system process to use 7.x encryption, which only matters if you're using a gateway/emunand
