A factory reset, also referred to as a hard reset or a master reset, is a software restore for a computer or other device to its original state, by erasing all data and files stored in it so as to get the device back to its original state and manufacturer’s settings. When doing a factory reset, it is possible to decide whether you want to keep your files or uninstall them, then reinstall the operating system. As easy as it may sound, it may not be the case for you so if you Can't reset windows 10, try out some of the solutions below.

easier just to format and reinstall from scratch. that's how i've always done it after backing everything up onto another drive first.

First off you need to not rely on the recovery partition on the hdd/ssd. Once the drive fails that recovery partition goes to. You need to have a clean copy of windows 10 burned on a DVD and/or USB Flash drive. You can always reinstall the OS from the external media. Second you should be backing up your personal files to a separate drive and/or using a backup solution like Acronis True Image to make a clone of your drive.

These are the methods needed to ensure resolution of drive failure.
