Are the 3DS boxes not sealed in other parts of the world? Here they are sealed at both ends with a plastic sticker thingy. So you either have to cut it to open or pull it off. Either way it's easy to see if it's been open without having to open to inspect or anything. You can just look and clearly see if the stickers have been tampered with.

I'm betting the shady folks know how to get those open without damage, or a way to get them off entirely and slap a new one on. I know it can be done with those "warranty void if seal broken" type stickers.

EDIT: sorry for the triple post, I have no idea what happened

Didn't think of that. They are just clear plastic, so you could easily pull off with a hairdryer and stick a new one. They are easy enough to get off without damaging the box, but the sticker itself always seems to deform, but a new one would sort that.

I just didn't think of it until you mention it. Seems like a lot of effort, but then I guess it depends on how much shady stuff/stores go on where you are, so it's not really something I think of here (most shops will easily take stuff back if you suspect it to be tampered with).

Man we are so luck here in the USA with our major retailers and big box stores like Walmart and such that have the most liberal return policies in the world. When I bought my XL in April it was one of the few remaining Mario Kart bundles (sold in Xmas of 2012) at Walmart....I got it home and it had obviously been opened and the Nintendo club card was missing...I took it back the next mornign and exchanged it for the last MK Bundle they had and it was new and had the NC card (and I wanted those evil points to get to platinum)......Here if you didn't get a 4.5 you just take it back easy......In other parts of the world looks like its more dicey....hell if I knew they were doing stuff like (selling used as new) that then I would just buy a used one and demand to 'inspect' it before purchase and then check the FW version.

Don't suppose they have anything like Crags List in China/HK? That is another great resource in the US for finding good deals on used...thats how I found a NIB v1.0 3DS for $100 in August (had to drive 40 miles to meet the guy but so what) and also last year got a barely used ps3 phat that was still below 3.55 (the people bought it to use as BR Player then never did) for $160. So many non-techie types on CL selling off electronic they don't use, you can really score great deals on 'modable' machines.

Now the new PS3 work on Cobra Ode and PXe3y! Still love the FAT one....had not broken down ever since 2008!

Yeah... I could've been more careful. I skimped on paying ~$40 extra at a proper retailer, and tampering is pretty much garaunteed.

Seeing as pokemon x is just around the corner, I might just wait it out. Gateway PLEASE work your MAGIC!!!!

Yeah the early phats with the ps2 backward compatibility ran hot and a lot of people had BRD fail in them.....the late phats that the removed the BC from ran cool and the drives must have been better....I have one of each and they are both hacked but I run the fan utility on the older one and kick the fan speed up which helps keep it much cooler.......CFW PS3s are the bomb I just love everything you can do with them and that it is all so slickly implemented, just like a softmodded Wii............I think with all the upgrades in security technology in these new systems it will be a good long time before we get any hacks on PS4 or XB1.........hell it took over 2 years to hack the PS3 and 3DS and Vita is still not cracked (other than PSP mode).
