Definitely make sure you get a hold on powersliding, as it's key to doing well at the game. I think they have a tutorial in the original that teaches you after aku-aku comes out and tells you about it, it might be here too. Try practicing on tracks with wide berths like on Coco Park, then try something harder but still forgiving like sewer speedway. It's meant to have a skill floor, because that's what sets it apart from every other kart racer. You have to know the tracks and the mechanics, and if you don't, you have to learn them. CTR '99 is one of my favorite games for exactly that reason. Normal is very forgiving for mistakes given that you have the essentials of powersliding and mini-turbos down, but if you don't understand them then you just won't be able to beat the game on a higher difficulty. Try using the new turbo meter with the lines on it to help you feel the timing on how to boost.

The boost system in CTR is unique in that it stacks. If you hit a drift boost immediately when the gauge turns red, it won't do much for you. Similarly, you need to try and hit all three per drift because each scales up from the last. If you fill the meter all the way up for a boost, it will let you keep boosting even after you quit drifting. Speedrunner people call the way it handles boost "reserves", if you want to research that, although it's pretty technical to start with. Just keep at it and you'll eventually get it. If you're having trouble spotting shortcuts and letters, someone scanned all of the track overviews from the strategy guide and you can look at them:

I already 101%'d the classic adventure mode, I need to do the time trials but I'm gonna wait til friday so I can do it on the PS4

Thanks, I got the hand of boosting slightly and do better in normal mode now, it is challenging but at least finding it a little more possible.

You think the game is hard now? Wait until you play online against people who never stopped playing the original crash team racing. :O

They'd absolutely destroy me  One reason I don't play games online often hahaha

Unethical?
Pretty sure you meant to say 100% illegal.

The game is easy. The problem is that NS gamers are used to playing everything on easy w/ training wheels.
If you're having trouble drifting and winning against AI- go practice on Tiny Arena and play with Coco.

Since you signed up just to post that, I signed up just to post this. No, sorry, to anyone that's not someone who plays racing games all the time for some reason, this game is hard. I can win races on Sonic Transformed no problem. I can win races on Mario Kart no problem. I can't even get past the first level on this on easy when drifting through the whole map in first place because some AI hits me with a bomb or homing missile or boost on the last lap every single time. If I'm playing on easy mode, I should be able to just have a good time without stressing myself out. I uninstalled this after a few races.. good thing I didn't buy it.

Meh

I eventually managed to do better on medium but this was on easier tracks. Some tracks have sharp corners and such so I know I'd never manage to win on those. Learning the tracks could help I guess and perfecting being able to do 3x boosts. Oh and those very unobvious shortcuts

I actually find hard mode imposible, the CPU's kart goes way too fast compared to the players one

i havent tried the game yet, but i red coments that the "jump" mechanic has changed a lot. is that true?

Is anyone getting a strange prompt to connect your NSW account online every time before finishing a race. This even crashed my switch.

Since were all signing up to get on this band wagon, I have played the original CTR since I was a youngin', having it be essentially the only game I could reliably play for the playstation wihtout my brother trying to use the disc as a skate on the smooth concrete floor. This game is hard. I have never stopped playing CTR, having been able to get first place and reliably beat bosses on the first try, including oxide, and 100%'ing adventure mode for fun. Medium difficulty tears you up man. I tried one race on hard last night and got dead last because the CP's would literally have twice your speed.

I understand making it harder for us old golds, but holy damn.

you need to practice you also have allot of shortcuts on the tracks just like mario kart you need to use drifting in the corners for a extra boost

yeah you gotta learn the mecanic of the game and apply it all along , you wont win if you dont get those 3 boost of drifting mostly all the time , and those item gotta be tiumed well . its a little more thecnick than mario akrt or sonic , you can see they try to not make it too much mario karty , it is its own thing but you gotta relearn to drive if your used to other driving game .

I have to say this; I am a veteran CTR player and I decided to play the game on medium in order to relearn my skills and find out what to expect of the game, and while I have yet to switch over to hard, I'm not really finding the game difficult at all. The normal tracks are a breeze, although I have had some trouble with a few of the CTR challenges.

I destroyed Ripper Roo easily and even though I did really poorly against Papu Papu, I still managed to win on 1st try by taking a gamble and succeeded at a risky shortcut at the end of the race.

I can't wait to see what the CPU can do on hard. It sounds to me like they've upped the difficulty, so it might actually be a nice challenge:P

Its Harder than original Game but not a lot y have 3 worlds completeds And the first world i hve allí ctr And reliq y get this un 1h yesterday xD
Ugh dude you’re the typical person that has to “brag” about feats that you don’t even believe, “I’m like amm the best, I finished the whole thing in 2 seconds” shut up already
