I was watching a CakeHoarderGames video on YouTube, and he asked about this prototype dev kit, and the owner said he worked at Sony and it was meant to be destroyed. I think it's very cool and deserves discussion here! It's the prototype for the add on, not the standalone system.

The MSF-1 name for the Nintendo PlayStation is what led to the MSU-1 co-processor being made, a DSP "chip" that can add CD audio enhancements to games at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit; this also includes full-motion video.

There are already several ROM hacks available for use with a flashcart, like the SD2SNES, which adds on those full capabilities to pre-existing games. I recommend also reading the specs if you're interested in more of the technical-side as to how it operates: https://web.archive.org/web/20191203150502/http://helmet.kafuka.org/msu1.htm
